Bollinger Champagne: Rich, Luxurious and Decadent

Revered for its rich round and luxurious style Bollinger is one of the most famous of all Champagne houses.

The high proportion of top quality Pinot Noir in the blend of the emblematic Special Cuvee Non Vintage is the key to the Bollinger style. This in combination with oak barrels for fermentation to add body and heft and access to an enviable library of reserve wines that bring layered complexity has won the house legions of fans.

The Bollinger Luxury Cuvees

The Bollinger Special Cuvee the the calling card of the house. However, there are a number of luxury cuvees made by Bollinger that are highly-collectable and immense in quality.

La Grande Annee

This is Bollinger’s vintage Champagne and is therefore based on a single harvest. La Grande Annee is released only in the best years when high quality can be guaranteed and has the characteristic Bollinger richness and weight while having huge ageing potential.

Bollinger RD

Bollinger RD (Recently Disgorged) is a fascinating Champagne. It is the same as La Grande Annee but bottles are kept back in the cellars and left of the lees for an extended period of time. These bottles are disgorged with significant bottles age, with the extra time on the lees keeps it fresh, but also means even more complexity.

Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Francaises

The Vieilles Vignes Francaises is a remarkable Champagne. Taken from an ever-shrinking and absolutely minuscule plot of pre-phylloxera Pinot Noir vines grafted on their own rootstock. The quality is immense and the Champagne, unique. It is perhaps the most collectable Champagne of them all. There are, however, fewer than 1,000 bottles made, making it almost impossible to find.

Le Cote Aux Enfants

This is a new micro-cuvee. It comes from one of the best and most revered plots of Pinot Noir in the region. This plot yields just a couple of thousand bottles. It has made an instant impression, with Champagne expert Richard Juhlin commenting, “Vieilles Vignes Françaises will always be the great canon, but elegance is greatest at La Côte aux Enfants and having them meet in a harmonious meeting of masters is a heavenly dream reachable on earth. A world-class wine is born!’
