Tasting Notes

Neal Martin 97

The 2018 Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a very candied, aniseed-tinged bouquet that contains impressive intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, lovely orange-zest infused red fruit, gentle but insistent grip with an arresting, white pepper/spicy finish that leaves the tongue tingling. Impressive and delicious, though it will need cellaring. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. [Neal Martin, 22/11/2022]

Anticipated maturity: 2028-2060

vinum 98

Magnificent aromas followed by a wine of huge stature, authority and volume. The red and dark berry fruit is extremely rich but this is about so much more than fruit. It’s savoury, mineral, intense and dry. Surely this is a very senior Richebourg? Despite its breadth, there’s hardly any weight or heaviness and the tannins are firm but totally ripe. They have density but somehow float and frame the wine effortlessly. [Matthew Hemming, 01/09/2022]

Wine Advocate 96

The 2018 Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of rose petals, wild berries, exotic spices and rich soil tones. This is followed by a full-bodied, deep and multidimensional palate that’s concentrated and serious, built around exquisitely refined but abundant tannins, concluding with a long and expansive finish. [William Kelley, 31/12/2019]
