Situated in the heart of Spain’s rugged Ribera del Duero region, Dominio de Pingus is one of the most legendary, highly allocated, and collectable cult wineries in the world. The estate was founded in 1995 by the visionary Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck, who recognised the untapped potential of ancient, bush-trained Tempranillo (locally called Tinto Fino) vines planted in the limestone-rich soils of La Horra. Sisseck famously named the estate after his childhood nickname, “Pingus.” The inaugural 1995 vintage achieved instant global stardom when critic Robert Parker tasted it in barrel and declared it one of the greatest and most exciting wines he had ever encountered, instantly creating a frantic international rush that has never subsided.

A Style of Concentrated Precision and Biodynamic Vitality

The overarching winemaking philosophy at Dominio de Pingus bridges monumental old-vine concentration with a precise, high-definition structural lift that completely redefines Tempranillo. Sisseck was a pioneering champion of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the region, transitioning the historic plots entirely to these practices by the early 2000s to maximise soil health and natural vine immunity.

In the cellar, the grapes undergo fermentation with native yeasts in small wooden vats or stainless steel, with manual punch-downs kept remarkably gentle to avoid bitter tannin extraction. While early vintages were aged in 100% new French oak, the modern style has dramatically evolved to favour older, neutral barrels and large oak vats, allowing the raw energy of the terroir to speak. The resulting wine is a multi-layered masterpiece: deeply opaque and structural, yet balanced by a vibrant acidity, chalky minerality, and intoxicating notes of dark plum, wild herbs, smoke, and crushed stones.

Extreme Scarcity and Masterful Terroir Curation of Pingus

The extraordinary global market prestige and investment-grade status surrounding the domain are anchored by its microscopic production levels and a ruthless, multi-tier selection process. The flagship Grand Vin, Pingus, is sourced exclusively from less than 5 hectares of ancient, low-yielding old vines that are over 60 to 70 years old, resulting in a tiny annual production that rarely exceeds 300 to 400 cases.

To complement the main bottling, Sisseck crafts Flor de Pingus, an exceptional, highly coveted red wine sourced from a separate collection of excellent old vineyards, as well as PSI, a regional project dedicated to protecting historic vineyards by supporting local growers who practice traditional farming.
