Neal Martin NR
The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a notably high-toned nose, offering scents of black cherries and fleeting touches of blueberry fruit and lavender, but there is some oxidation here. The palate is medium-bodied, with saturated tannins and what feels like late-picked fruit that loses a bit of Pinote and transparency. I feel that this is not a representative example. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Red fruit, damp leaves and a piling spice quality. Accelerates through the palate with such thrust and energy – power but not mass. Shows really impressive mid-palate complexity and none of the clumsy weight of my last bottle. There’s a clarity and minerality on the back of the mid-palate that’s really thrilling. The whole bunch is bringing dark spice and some pepper.
