Domaine Georges Roumier: A Chambolle-Musigny Legend

Located in the village of Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Georges Roumier is widely considered one of the absolute pinnacles of fine Burgundy. Established in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the estate’s international cult status was solidified under the brilliant, decades-long stewardship of his grandson, Christophe Roumier, who took over in 1982. Today, Christophe continues to direct the property with a philosophy that elevates vineyard expression above all else.

Managing approximately 11.8 hectares of exceptionally well-situated vines, the domain employs a flexible, organic-leaning viticultural approach that eschews chemical fertilisers and heavy ploughing. This meticulous care ensures that the natural biodiversity of the soil is preserved, making these rare bottles some of the most fiercely hunted allocations on the global wine market.

A Style of Power, Transparency, and Natural Grace

The defining winemaking style of Domaine Georges Roumier avoids modern cosmetic trends, focusing instead on structural longevity, aromatic purity, and a weightless sense of power. Christophe Roumier adapts his cellar techniques fluidly to the personality of each vintage. Whole-cluster inclusion varies anywhere from 0% to high percentages, depending on stem maturity, used to impart vertical tension and floral lift. Fermentations are carried out with native yeasts in open-top wooden vats, followed by a highly conservative barrel ageing program. New French oak is kept remarkably low—typically ranging from 15% for village wines to a maximum of 35% for the grand crus. The resulting Pinot Noirs are celebrated for their classic, chiselled architecture, showing a dense, multi-layered mid-palate that remains perfectly translucent to its underlying terroir.

Georges Roumier: Uncompromising Quality and Blue-Chip Terroirs

The legendary reputation and investment-grade quality of Domaine Georges Roumier are anchored by an extraordinary collection of old-vine parcels in Burgundy’s most revered climats. The absolute crown jewel of the estate is its holding in the Grand Cru Musigny, producing a wine of ethereal depth and intense scarcity. This is complemented by exceptional parcels in Bonnes-Mares and the iconic Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses, alongside their famous monopole, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru Clos de la Bussière. Through rigorous sorting and naturally low yields, the estate achieves spectacular consistency across varying vintages. Built with impeccable balance and serious structural integrity, these highly allocated masterpieces require patient cellaring, routinely unfurling decades of complex earth, game, and black-fruit nuance.
