Henri Germain: A Rising Star Of Burgundy

Being on the ground in a region like Burgundy often pays dividends in the form of little inside tips that point you in the direction of great wines that might not have been on your radar before. A trip uncovered one of these, Henri Germain. This is a Meursault-based demand attracting serious local attention to the extent that we were told that allocations were harder to get than those from the mighty Coche-Dury. 

A bottle of the 2022 Meursault Chevaliers in a restaurant over lunch was sensational. It’s easy to see why Neal Martin wrote that Germain is a producer he “often orders” in Burgundy’s bistros, praise that speaks volumes. Of the 2023s, which we are offering below, he writes, “These are exemplary wines. You can understand why they have such a loyal following.”

Quality is consistent throughout the range, reflecting a quiet confidence in the terroir and the winemaking. The Meursault Limozin and Village bottlings are particularly charming, offering fine mineral tension, purity of fruit and impressive balance: eloquent expressions of both terroir and thoughtful élevage.
