Jacques-Frederic Mugnier: Icon Burgundy
JF Mugnier is one of Burgundy’s superstar domaines. Famed for its Musigny, but with a Bonnes Mares and Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses that are also sensational, this is red Burgundy of the very top tier.
The Famous Mugnier Musigny
Musigny is a benchmark vineyard. For Clive Coates, it’s “one of the very greatest climats in the whole of the Côte d’Or” and “can be quite simply the most delicious wine to be found in Burgundy… heaven in a glass.” Jasper Morris concurs, calling it “one of Burgundy’s outstanding Crown Jewels”, and he places it above even Chambertin on the qualitative tree. It has a mythical aura, as do the wines that come from here… none more so than that of Mugnier.
Mugnier’s Musigny is one of Grand Cru Burgundy’s ultimate trophies and, for Coates, “A wine at the summit of what Burgundy can produce”. Supply is minuscule, and since those with it are seldom inclined to let theirs go, it appears for sale fleetingly and only in tiny amounts.
