Pierre Girardin: One Of Burgundy’s Rising Stars

Based in Meursault, Domaine Pierre Girardin is one of the most rapidly ascending names in the modern landscape of fine Burgundy. Pierre-Vincent Girardin, a 13th-generation vigneron, launched his inaugural vintage in 2017 at just 21 years old. The foundation of the estate was secured by his father, Vincent Girardin, who sold his own large négociant business but retained 4.5 hectares of the family’s finest, old-vine parcels specifically for his son. Supplementing these core estate holdings with long-term farming contracts, Pierre-Vincent has quickly established a state-of-the-art winery and an enviable portfolio that spans prestigious appellations across both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits.

Pierre Girardin’s Taut, Mineral-Driven and Architectural Style

The winemaking philosophy at Domaine Pierre Girardin focuses on high-tension precision, crystalline purity, and minimal cellar intervention. For his white wines, Girardin champions a reductive, flinty style, avoiding lees-stirring to maintain maximum driving energy and fresh acidity. To achieve this, he vinifies his Chardonnays in custom, double-sized 456-litre barrels; the larger volume reduces wood-to-wine contact, ensuring that oak influence never overshadows the terroir. His red wines receive a similarly meticulous treatment, emphasising a high proportion of whole-cluster fermentation and exceptionally gentle handling in the cellar to achieve high-toned floral aromatics and refined, micro-grained tannins.

Exceptional Quality and Expansive Terroir Expression

The remarkable market demand for Domaine Pierre Girardin reflects the rigorous quality control and technical innovation applied to both his estate and merchant cuvées. In the vineyard, Girardin employs high-canopy vine training to protect fruit from intense heat and manage phenolic ripeness efficiently. His portfolio offers collectors a rare cross-section of Burgundy’s elite terroirs, featuring exceptional village sites like Meursault Les Narvaux alongside standard-setting Grand Crus such as Corton-Charlemagne, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Échezeaux. Characterised by their structural focus, remarkable balance, and deep concentration, these highly allocated wines offer significant cellaring potential and represent the vanguard of contemporary Burgundy.
