Alvina Pernot: A Puligny-Montrachet Rising Star

Based in the historic village of Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Alvina Pernot represents one of the most exciting recent success stories in white Burgundy. The estate was established in 2018 by Alvina Pernot and her husband, Philippe Abadie. Alvina is the granddaughter of Paul Pernot, the legendary patriarch of one of Puligny’s most iconic and deeply rooted domains. Having worked for years alongside her family, Alvina struck out to create an independent label, initially sourcing pristine fruit through meticulous parcel selections from her family’s formidable vineyard holdings. What began as a micro-production passion project instantly captured the attention of international critics and fine wine purists, quickly elevating the estate into a highly allocated, globally tracked cult favourite.

A Style of Laser Tension, Purity, and Electric Mineral Drive

The signature winemaking style at Alvina Pernot is celebrated for its remarkable energy, structural transparency, and high-tensile mineral focus. While the historic Paul Pernot style leans toward a richer, more generous, and classically opulent expression of Puligny, Alvina and Philippe have purposefully steered their wines in a more modern direction. They focus heavily on early picking dates to lock in biting natural acidity and maximise physiological freshness. In the cellar, the juices are fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels with a highly disciplined approach to new wood, frequently opting for neutral oak or larger vessels to ensure the fruit profile remains completely unmasked. The wines are aged on their fine lees without any stirring (bâtonnage), yielding a Chardonnay characterised by its structural verticality, saline crunch, and an explosive core of citrus oil and crushed limestone.

Alvina Pernot’s Exceptional Parcel Clarity and Micro-Production Status

The rapid global ascent and strict, allocation-only status surrounding the domain are anchored by access to an elite matrix of old-vine material across the Côte de Beaune’s finest terroirs. The portfolio is spearheaded by a magnificent array of Puligny-Montrachet Premier Crus, including highly chiselled interpretations of Les Folatières, Les Pucelles, and Champ Canet, alongside a rare, high-altitude block in Meursault La Pièce sous le Bois. The crown jewels of the selection include microscopic, investment-grade bottlings of Grand Crus like Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. By bottling individual plots with surgical precision and keeping total production levels extremely low, the estate ensures that the distinctive geological signature of each limestone terrace is captured flawlessly. These tightly wound, pristine white Burgundies possess exceptional aging potential, built to unfurl beautifully over decades.
