Domaine Meo-Camuzet: A Vosne-Romanée Benchmark

Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is regarded as one of the most prestigious estates in Vosne-Romanée. The domain’s modern identity was famously shaped by the legendary vintner Henri Jayer, who farmed the family’s parcels under a sharecropping agreement for several decades. In 1989, Jean-Nicolas Méo took direction of the property, working alongside Jayer to transition the estate to direct bottling and farming. Today, Jean-Nicolas guides the cellar with technical director Damien Hudelot, managing a portfolio of exceptionally well-situated vineyards. The estate’s holdings cover roughly 14 hectares, featuring an array of prime premier cru and grand cru parcels that attract discerning Burgundy collectors worldwide.

The Indulgent and Structured Style of Meo-Camuzet Pinot Noir

The core winemaking philosophy at Domaine Méo-Camuzet builds upon Jayer’s legacy while adapting to contemporary precision. The defining style of these Pinot Noirs balances hedonistic richness with underlying structural integrity. Grapes are completely destemmed and undergo a rigorous cold maceration prior to fermentation with native yeasts to maximise aromatic definition and colour extraction. The wines are aged with a relatively high proportion of new French oak, including up to 100% for the top grand crus. This produces young wines with a lush, velvety texture, deep fruit concentration, and subtle spice notes that seamlessly integrate into a vertical, terroir-driven frame as they mature.

Quality and Rare Terroir Expressions

The enduring stature of Domaine Méo-Camuzet is anchored by its access to some of the most historic terroirs in Burgundy. The estate is a primary custodian of legendary plots, most notably the iconic Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Au Cros Parantoux and the Grand Cru Richebourg, alongside significant parcels in Échézeaux and Clos de Vougeot. Uncompromising vineyard management, prioritising low yields, organic practices, and meticulous sorting, ensures consistent quality across all vintages. These highly sought-after wines possess a notable capacity for long-term cellaring, regularly evolving over decades to reveal layers of earthy complexity, refined tannins, and profound site-specific character. Learn more about Domaine Meo Camuzet

Tasting Notes

Neal Martin 92-94

The 2024 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was pre-blended in July so there is just one cuvee this year. It has an understated bouquet, mainly red fruit mixed with briar and light peppery scents, again one of those cuvees that deceives you into thinking there is some whole bunch. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant red fruit, a touch of blood orange the 80% new oak neatly integrated. Again, this is a cuvee that might have the edge over the previous vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2027-2042
