Offered from stock, I’m delighted to present 300+ bottles from the Tuscan thoroughbred estate, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia.
Flagship Ornellaia is well-established as one of the great Bordeaux blends of the fine wine world. World class in its outlook, yet firmly rooted in its Tuscan origins, Ornellaia is born of a terroir basking under the sun on hillsides overlooking the Mediterranean. Sea breezes provide a cooling influence that moderates the Tuscan sun, creating exceptional conditions for ripening Bordeaux varieties and imprinting them with a unique terroir signature.
2019 delivered an outstanding vintage in Bolgheri. It produced an Ornellaia that is glamorous and seductive, yet holding a saline minerality. The 2019 has a impressive 97+/100 from Antonio Galloni and a matching 97/100 from Monica Larner.
Ornellaia 2018 is a more brooding and introspective expression of the vineyard. Less flashy than the 2019, it is a subtle Ornellaia, that deserves some cellar time, yet its layers and harmony rate 97/100 from Galloni and an impressive 95/100 from Larner.
Le Volte is a fresh, fruit-driven and juicy red that introduces Tusany’s own Sangiovese alongside Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It provides supple and uncomplicated early drinking, with a touch of Ornellaia class.
There’s terrific aromatic complexity to play off the rich, deep fruit. The 2020 is a terrific Le Volte

Ornellaia 2018
5 cases (1×6) OWC available @ $1,680 per case (w/ GST $1,814.40)
The 2018 Ornellaia is an introvert at this stage. Medium in body, with terrific persistence and impeccable balance, the 2018 is not in any mood to show all its cards today. Hints of red berry fruit, mocha, spice, licorice and dried flowers emerge with a bit of coaxing. I won’t be surprised to see it put on weight with more time in bottle. There is certainly plenty to look forward to. Readers should expect a silky, aromatic Ornellaia in line with vintages such as 2004 that are more about finesse than raw power. This is the first time in which Merlot drives the blend in Ornellaia.
97/100 – Antonio Galloni
The 2018 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is complete and seamlessly stitched together with extreme care and precision. This is an almost technical blend of Merlot (at 50% of the blend for the first time), 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot that offers a true sense of wholeness and consistency that speaks to the blending expertise and experience of the winemaking team. Finding harmony among the various vinous components of the wine was especially important in this vintage that prized early-ripening grapes like Merlot over the others. Blackberry and dried cherry segue to spice, tar, campfire ash and more sweet fruit. We’re off to a great start, and this vintage of Ornellaia is surely destined to flesh out and grow more complex with age.
95/100 – Monica Larner / The Wine Advocate
Ornellaia 2019
50 bottles available @ $280 per bottle (w/ GST $302.40)
“Limited to 6 bottles per person”
The 2019 Ornellaia is one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted here. All the elements are so well-balanced. Dark and racy, with fabulous class and pedigree to burn, the 2019 is superb from the very first taste. Dark plum, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice build over time, but it is the wine’s stunning finesse that impresses most. The 2019 has the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon since the 2002. That very much comes through in the wine’s vibrancy and aromatic presence.
97+/100 – Antonio Galloni
This is a beautiful expression of coastal Tuscany and the sunny Mediterranean. The Ornellaia 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia (a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot) pours from the bottle with a specific darkness that has elements of both inky saturation and ruby highlights. The wine is saturated and rich—this is something you notice off the bat—but it also reveals a pleasing lightness or grace that is transmitted to both the bouquet and the palate. Dark fruit, pressed blackberry and plum mingle with more substantial aromas of spice, leather and sweetly cured tobacco. The tannins are beautifully managed, and the wine sports considerable heft and density on the palate that drives a very long and pleasurable mouthfeel.
97/100 – Monica Larner
Le Volte dell’Ornellaia 2020
66 bottles available @ $42 per bottle (w/ GST $45.36)
27 cases (1×6) OC available @ $228 per case (w/ GST $246.24)
The 2020 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a bright, vibrant red to drink now and over the next handful of years. Sweet red cherry, mint, cedar, tobacco and peppery notes lend energy. There’s terrific aromatic complexity to play off the rich, deep fruit. The 2020 is a terrific Le Volte. One of the recent evolutions here is a focus on Merlot rather than Sangiovese, as it was in the early days. I would give this a few months in bottle, as the tannins are a bit rustic in the early going.
89/100 – Antonio Galloni
A blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, the Ornellaia 2020 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia shows medium darkness and texture followed by a very primary and fruit-forward bouquet. There is a generous display of cherry, cassis and wild plum. On second nose, this easy and straightforward Tuscan blend reveals hints of spice, cardamon and polished river stone. In a hot vintage like this, the wine comes together nicely and rather effortlessly.
90/100 – Monica Larner
