Accendo Cellars

The Araujo family are well versed in the production of elite Napa Valley wine, having been the custodians of their eponymous estate – and the fabled Eisele Vineyard – until its purchase by Chateau Latour in 2013. With Accendo Cellars, the Araujo family are seeking to re-capture some of the excitement of the legendary Napa wines of the mid-20th century.

The dominance of single vineyard cuvees amongst the ranks of California’s most prestigious wines is a relatively new phenomenon. For much of the 20th century the most sought-after Napa legends – such as Beaulieu Vineyards Georges de Latour 1968 or older Mondavi Reserve vintages – were blends of fruit from multiple sources. Having privileged the Eisele Vineyard at Araujo Estate, Bart, Daphne and family have taken inspiration from an earlier age for Accendo Cellars.

In addition to seeking the layered complexity of a multi-vineyard blend, the family are looking for the freshness and moderate alcohol of earlier picking dates. Before global warming, Napa Cabernet had a drinkability born of modest alcohol married to sun-kissed California fruit and this is part of the ideal for Accendo Cellars.

Today we are delighted to offer our stock of 2016 and 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. Made by a crack team with access to fruit from diverse sites of the highest pedigree – including Vine Hill Ranch, Sleeping Lady and Oakville Ranch – Accendo Cellars is a worthy addition to the Napa pantheon.

2016 is a great, classic vintage and a staggering achievement for just the 3rd vintage to be released. The critics agree, with 97+/100 from Vinous and 98/100 from The Wine Advocate.

Just 995 cases of 2018 Cabernet were produced but it’s a remarkable wine with a perfect 100/100 from Antonio Galloni.

Vinum are thrilled to be the exclusive distributors of Accendo Cellars in Singapore. Do let us know if you would like to add either of these modern day classics to your cellar.

Accendo Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
@ $1,200 (inc GST $1,296) per 3 bottles
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon feels like it hasn’t developed much over the last year, and I see that as a positive. Silky, nuanced and still very vibrant, the 2016 is just as inspiring as it was when I tasted it last year. Fresh, floral and medium in body, with terrific depth, the 2016 is positively stellar. Bright floral and spice notes add freshness to this super-expressive, sublime Cabernet Sauvignon from Accendo.
97+/100 – Antonio Galloni / vinous.com

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is blended of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot and was bottled in August 2018. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts out of the glass with exotic spice notes of star anise, fenugreek and cumin seed over a core of blackberry pie, wild blueberries and warm cassis with hints of kirsch, cigar box and mocha plus a waft of smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with vibrant black, blue and red fruits plus tons of spicy sparks, framed by wonderfully ripe, fine-grained tannins and beautiful freshness, finishing long and perfumed.

Accendo Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
@ $1,500 (inc GST $1,620) per 3 bottles
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as magnificent as it was last year. Dark, sensual and enveloping, the 2018 possesses off the charts intensity and fabulous balance. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and licorice all build over time, but it is the wine’s mind-blowing intensity and pedigree that are once again so alluring. The 2018 is quite simply regal.
100/100 – Antonio Galloni

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from Vine Hill Ranch and Sleeping Lady vineyards, the Cabernet Franc came from Diamond Mountain and the Petit Verdot is from the old Abreu Thorevilos vineyard (now called Ecotone). Deep garnet-purple in color, it leaps from the glass with classic cassis, warm plums and boysenberries scents plus nuances of violets, lavender, pencil lead and menthol with hints of crushed rock and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, framed by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness with super intense black fruit and earthy layers, finishing long and mineral laced. 995 cases were made.
98+/100 – Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW
