Domaine Ramonet's Hidden Gem - The Outstanding Reds!

We are delighted to introduce the first part of an extraordinary cellar featuring Domaine Ramonet’s reds. Often overshadowed by their iconic white counterparts, these reds possess equal charm and distinction.

A Burgundian Icon
Domaine Ramonet needs no introduction as their wines are among the most highly sought-after in the whole world. Nestled in Chassagne-Montrachet within the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Ramonet boasts a legacy dating back to the late 1920s. Founded by Pierre Ramonet, this estate acquired some of the most coveted vineyard parcels in Montrachet, cementing its reputation as a Burgundian icon.

Beyond the Whites: The Reds of Domaine Ramonet
Today, we are absolutely thrilled to offer their three Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Crus reds: La Boudriotte (1.02 Ha), Clos St Jean (0.79 Ha) & Morgeot (0.59 Ha).

Collectors and connoisseurs covet Domaine Ramonet’s red wines for their scarcity as the annual production of approximately 3,000 cases. Ramonet’s reds are made with minimal intervention and low yields, resulting in wines that for Allen Meadow and William Kelley, have anoutstanding richness” and  “[don’t] lack for personality”.

A Rare Opportunity & A Perfect Provenance
This collection, featuring 120 bottles (including large formats!) spanning from 1998 to 2018, presents a unique opportunity to own a piece of this Burgundian legend.

The majority of these bottles remain nestled in their original cases, offering impeccable provenance. Sourced from a single collector upon release, they have been perfectly stored in professional cellars throughout the years. Don’t let this extraordinary chance to secure Domaine Ramonet’s hidden gems slip through your fingers

2016 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru Rouge

6 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 200/ bottle (inc GST $216)

“Aromas of strawberry, cinnamon and currant leaf introduce the 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot (Rouge), medium-bodied, succulent wine with fine but firm tannins.”

2018 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru Rouge

1 Magnum (x1.5L) @ SGD$ 460/ Mag (inc GST $496.80)

“A slightly riper and less elegant nose also reflects plenty of dark berry influences along with more earth and a whisper of the sauvage. There is very good richness and reasonably good volume to the rustic and robust medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth if limited refinement on the raspy, youthfully austere and moderately structured finale where a touch of warmth eventually appears. This is very Morgeot in character and while it won’t win any prizes for refinement, it certainly doesn’t lack for personality. Moreover, stylistically speaking, it stands in stark contrast to the more refined CSJ.”

2012 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru Rouge

24 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 200/ bottle (inc GST $216)

“Initially this opens with noticeable reduction though it doesn’t persist as long as the wine is well-aerated. After the funk dissipates the nose reveals bright aromas of red cherry, raspberry and soft nuances of pepper and earth. The light weight flavors are supple and round with reasonably good energy that carries the acceptably long and complex finish. As is often the case with this wine it’s light but pretty and could easily be enjoyed now though a few years of bottle age should help to add depth.”

2015 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru Rouge

12 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 230/ bottle (inc GST $248.40)

“Evident though not intrusive wood sets off nicely elegant, pure and airy if ripe aromas of plum, dark currant and soft earth nuances. There is very good richness if perhaps not quite the usual refinement to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the moderately complex if slightly warm finish. While obviously very young, this is prettier than it is deep and thus I would be inclined to hold this for at least a few years first in the hopes that the usual depth the CSJ develops with time.”

2016 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru Rouge

6 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 260/ bottle (inc GST $280.80)

“The finest red in the cellar is the 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean (Rouge), a medium-bodied, fleshy wine with good concentration, juicy acids and supple tannin that bursts with smoky plum and cherry fruit.”

2017 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru Rouge

6 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 180/ bottle (inc GST $194.40)

3 Magnums (x1.5L) @ SGD$ 400/ Mag (inc GST $432)

“The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean (Rouge) offers up a deeper-pitched bouquet, featuring wild plums, raspberries, rose hips, licorice and orange zest. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, with a sweet core of fruit and melting tannins.”

2012 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru Rouge

24 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 150/ bottle (inc GST $162)

“Interestingly this opens with a nose of ripe and peppery red and dark berry fruit aromas that are liberally cut with earth but within 10 minutes or so it begins to display notes of reduction. I say interestingly because usually the process works the other way where the reduction dissipates and the fruit arrives to take its place. Otherwise there is good volume, ripeness and density, in fact for a Ramonet red this is really quite serious with fine phenolic maturity to the structural elements on the mouth coating, firm and lingering finish. It’s hard to say where the nose will go but my score offers the benefit of the doubt.”

2015 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru Rouge

12 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 190/ bottle (inc GST $205.20)

“The wood treatment is evident without being annoying on the notably ripe, indeed vaguely liqueur-like nose of dark raspberries, pepper, earth and a whiff of violet. There is outstanding richness to the seductively textured, round and velvety medium-bodied flavors that offer excellent depth and persistence. I’m not normally a huge fan of the Ramonet reds as I often find that they lack just a bit of underlying material, not because they are dilute so much as they are expressly vinified to enjoy young. In 2015 however, this has plenty of grip and mid-palate density and should be wine that is enjoyable young, but 10 years from now should be equally agreeable.”

2017 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru Rouge

6 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 165/ bottle (inc GST $178.20)

“Ramonet’s finest red this year is the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Boudriotte, a lovely bottling that bursts with scents of wild berries, orange rind, sweet soil tones and dried flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and succulent, with powdery tannins, good depth of fruit and a fragrant finish.”

92 Points William Kelley

2018 Domaine Ramonet, Chassagne Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru Rouge

6 bottles (x75cl) @ SGD$ 170/ bottle (inc GST $183.60)

“This is aromatically similar to the Clos St. Jean with perhaps a touch more elegance. The delicious, nicely detailed and attractively vibrant medium weight flavors are refined, dusty and more complex than either of its two stablemates on the reasonably well-balanced finish that displays just a trace of warmth. This is quite good and while it’s definitely 2018 in style, it carries it off gracefully.”
