2013 Harlan Estate Propriety Blend

1 Magnum (1.5L) OC @ SGD $4,700 per mag (inc GST $5,076)

As I predicted last year, the 2013 Harlan Estate is one of their all-time greats, although they have had many of them, starting with the 1991, followed by 1994, 1995, 1997 (although controversial in some circles), 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012. This great first-growth property, with aspirations to produce the finest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine made in the New World, has given us a wine that has it all in 2013. Dense purple to the rim, with notes of espresso, white chocolate, mocha, blackberry, cassis, and cedar wood, the wine is full-bodied, opulent, but also structured, pure and incredibly long (well past a minute aftertaste). It is probably closest in personality and overall character to the compelling 2001, which is still a youthful wine at age 15. Drink it over the next 50+ years.

2015 Harlan Estate Propriety Blend

1 Magnum (1.5L) OWC @ SGD $4,200 per mag (inc GST $4,536)

Bottled in early 2018, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Harlan Estate is a little closed, slowly unfurling to reveal black cherries, crème de cassis and plum pudding with nuances of potpourri, baking spices and tilled soil plus wafts of garrigue and wild sage. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and fantastic poise and depth with a long, decadently fruited finish.

2018 Harlan Estate Propriety Blend

1 case (1×3) OC @ SGD $6,500 per case (inc GST $7,020)

1 Magnum (1.5L) OC @ SGD $5,000 per mag (inc GST $5,400)

Stunning on every level, the 2018 Proprietary Red Wine reveals a dense purple hue as well as an incredible bouquet of crème de cassis, graphite, crushed stone, iron, violets, and tobacco. Reminding me of a hypothetical blend of Ducru Beaucaillou and Pontet Canet from a great, classical vintage (or a more elegant version of the 2013 for simplicity), it’s medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced, powerful yet elegant, and has a finish that won’t quit. This is pure gold in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s already drinkable yet will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have 40 years of prime drinking. (5/2022)

2016 Bond Estate Melbury

1 Magnum (1.5L) OC @ SGD $2,200 per mag (inc GST $2,376)

Moving to the single vineyard releases, the 2016 Melbury is pure perfection in a glass and is the finest vintage of this cuvée I’ve tasted. Awesome notes of cassis, blackcurrants, toasted bread, white flowers, and spice give way to an ethereal, seamless, yet opulent wine that has that rare mix of power and elegance possessed by all truly great wines. Full-bodied, concentrated, and with building yet perfectly ripe tannins, do your best to give bottles 4-5 years of bottle age. It will evolve effortlessly for 30 years or more.

2016 Bond Estate St. Eden

1 Magnum (1.5L) OC @ SGD $2,300 per mag (inc GST $2,484)

Another perfect wine in the lineup is the 2016 St. Eden, which comes from a hillside of red volcanic soils just outside of Oakville. As with the 2015, wine doesn’t get any better, and this inky hued 2016 offers up a smorgasbord of crème de cassis, blackberries, crushed rocks, toasty oak, new leather, and tobacco. Deep, full-bodied, powerful yet also incredibly elegant, it offers pleasure even today yet will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and cruise for 30 years or more.

2018 Bond “Vecina” Bordeaux Blend

1 case (1×3) OC @ SGD $3,000 per case (inc GST $3,240)

Outer quote mark Seductive aromas of blackcurrants, plums and flowers, including roses. Really incredible this year with such verticality, depth and brightness. Goes on and on and on. Superb fruit character with plums and currants. Love it. Drinkable now, but give it time. Try after 2025. Inner quote mark (5/2021)

2016 Diamond Creek, Gravelly Meadow Cabernet Sauvignon

1 case (1×6) OC @ SGD $3,000 per case (inc GST $3,240)

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow is made up of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Very deep purple-black colored, it sashays out of the glass with beautifully provocative black cherries, blueberry compote and warm cassis scents followed by candied violets, molten chocolate, licorice and fallen leaves plus hints of black olives and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals explosive energy wrapped in a silken carpet of exquisitely fine-grained tannins, finishing with amazing freshness and perfume. Gorgeous.

2016 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon

1 case (1×6) OWC @ SGD $2,350 per case (inc GTS $2,538)

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has shut down slightly since I tasted it last year, yet it’s still a magical, perfect wine. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot, it offers incredible notes of pure crème de cassis, blueberries, camphor, crushed rocks, and lead pencil shavings. This rich, full-bodied beauty always reminds me of a great vintage of Château Margaux with its beautiful complexity, power, and elegance. (1/2020)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is still very tight and youthful, slowly unfurling to reveal a multifaceted wine with tons of black, blue and red fruit sparks—plums, cherries, black currants and red currants—with dark chocolate, cedar chest, black tea and red roses in the background plus wafts of pencil lead and prosciutto. Medium-bodied and firmly textured by superbly ripe, grainy tannins, it has a fantastic core of intense, complex layers, finishing on an edifying mineral note. Wow!

Dominus 2018

6 bottles (75cl) @ SGD $540 per bottle (inc GST $583.20)

2 cases (1×6) OWC @ SGD $3,000 per case (inc GST $3,240)

1 Double Magnum (3L) OWC @ SGD $2,300 per dmg (inc GST $2,484)

The flagship 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot brought up in 40% new French oak. With an essence of Cabernet like character in its darker currants, green tobacco, cedar, graphite, and floral aromas and flavors, this gorgeous wine is full-bodied and has bright yet integrated acidity, polished tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s just gorgeously put together and a magical, flawless wine. It’s going to take a decade to hit maturity but will evolve for 40-50 years in cold cellars. It is as good as it gets in classic, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon! (1/2021)

2018 Accendo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

15 cases (1×3) OC @ SGD $1,350 per case (inc GST $1,458)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as magnificent as it was last year. Dark, sensual and enveloping, the 2018 possesses off the charts intensity and fabulous balance. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and licorice all build over time, but it is the wine’s mind-blowing intensity and pedigree that are once again so alluring. The 2018 is quite simply regal.

2018 L’Aventure “Estate Cuvée” Paso Robles Red Blend

34 bottles (75cl) @ SGD $140 per bottle (inc GST $151.20)

1 case (1×6) OWC @ SGD $820 per case (inc GTS $885.60)

Tasting like the straight Cab, yet with more sex appeal, it offers a huge nose of crème de cassis, white flowers, crushed stone, graphite, and crushed flowers. This carries to a full-bodied, gorgeously textured red with incredible balance, no hard edges, a thrilling mid-palate, and a great, great finish. It’s going to benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age and keep for upwards of two decades or more. Hats off to winemaker Stephan Asseo on another incredible wine, as well as, I suspect, the wine of the vintage. (9/2020)

2016 Abreu, Las Posadas

5 cases (1×3) OC @ SGD $2,200 per case (inc GST $2,376)

The 2016 Las Posadas is a stunning Howell Mountain wine. Inky, rich and hedonistically beautiful, the 2016 is simply magnificent. Crème de cassis, chocolate, menthol, licorice, lavender, cloves, mint, graphite and crushed rocks are all amped up in the glass. Unctuous, creamy and super-expressive, the Posadas captures the opulence of Howell Mountain. It is simply magnificent in every way. (Drink between 2024-2046)

2013 Sine Qua Non, Le Supplement & Jusqu’a l’os Assortment (EBA)

1 case (2×3) OWC @ SGD $5,200 per case of 6 (inc GST $5,616)

2013 Le Supplement Syrah, Eleven Confessions Vineyard

Coming entirely from the Eleven Confessions Estate Vineyard and composed of 89% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, 3% Grenache and 2% Viognier, using 28% whole cluster, the 2013 Syrah Le Supplement is just starting to evolve into beguiling earthy/meaty tertiary notes with suggestions of sandalwood, mossy bark, black soil, patchouli and salami over a core of blackberry compote, preserved plums, mincemeat pie and star anise with a touch of dried lavender. Rich, concentrated and decadent, the full-bodied, opulent palate explodes with black fruits preserves peppered by meaty/savory nuances and culminating in epically lingering exotic spice notes. 866 cases, 228 magnums and 30 double magnums were produced. Drink 2018 – 2038.

100 points Lisa Perrotti- Brown

2013 Jusqu’ a l’os Grenache, Eleven Confessions Vineyard
The 2013 Grenache Jusqu’ a l’os was produced from 79% Grenache from the 11 Confessions Vineyard along with 18% Syrah and 3% Petite Sirah, produced using 89% whole cluster and aged for around 38 months in 51% used oak, 6% new French oak and 43% concrete tanks (bottled December 6, 2016). It displays a medium to deep garnet color and rock star vibrant red currant and black raspberry scents with hints of licorice, mocha, Indian spices and peppered salami plus oh-so-fragrant and seductive touches of potpourri and chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and opulently fruited in the mouth, the alluring, velvety tannins support savory, spicy layers right through the long, mineral-laced finish. This is one drop dead gorgeous, femme fatale of a wine. 868 cases of 750 milliliter bottles, 223 magnums and 30 double magnums were made. Drink 2018 – 2035

2006 Sine Qua Non, A Shot in the Dark & In the Crosshairs Assortment
1 case of 2 Magnums (2×1.5L) OWC @ SGD $7,500 per case of 2 mags (inc GST $8,100)
2006 In the Cross Hairs 11 Confessions Vineyard: This is Sine Qua Non’s extended barrel-aged Grenache (meaning that in most vintages since 2003, Krankl has produced two cuvees of Grenache, one aged 18-22 months before bottling, and the other one with extended barrel-aging, in this case 32 months in wood). A blend of 84% Grenache, 12% Syrah and 4% Viognier, all from the 11 Confessions Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills, this is one of the most extraordinarily elegant Grenaches Krankl has produced. It is an intellectual wine, yet it doesn’t wimp out by any means. It is full-bodied and voluptuously textured, with notes of spice box, licorice and Provencal herbs, copious quantities of black currant and kirsch liqueur, stunning richness and a finish lasting close to a minute. This amazing effort confirms Krankl’s meticulous and nearly obsessively detailed work in both the vineyard and the winery. Anticipated maturity: now-2022.

2013 Marcassin, Chardonnay
3 bottles (75cl) @ SGD $1,150  per bottle (inc GST $1,242)
While the Pinot Noir lags behind its 2012 counterpart, the same can’t be said about the 2013 Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard. Utter perfection in wine, this awesome beauty boasts a medium gold hue as well as a locked-and-loaded bouquet of caramelized citrus, orange blossom, white currants, toasted hazelnuts, brioche, and white flowers. With an incredible sense of minerality (it’s one of the very few California Chardonnay to have a Burgundian sense of good reduction and minerality), full-bodied richness, and an undeniable purity and class, this magical California Chardonnay will stand up to anything out there today. The current release (close to seven years after the vintage), it’s still young, tight, and unevolved, and needs plenty of air to show at its best.
