A Glimpse into Domaine Jean Tardy’s Legacy:

In 1920, Victor Tardy embarked on his wine journey as an agricultural worker at Domaine Camuzet, rooted in Flagey-Echézeaux. In a gesture of appreciation, Étienne Camuzet, in 1945, rewarded Victor’s dedication with vineyards through a “meteyage agreement,” a form of sharecropping.

Fast forward to 1966, Jean Tardy, Victor’s son, took the helm, expanding their holdings to include premier cru and grand cru parcels. When these agreements concluded in 2007, Jean embarked on a quest to acquire new vineyards, diversifying into appellations like Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, and premier cru Nuits-Saint-Georges “Aux Argillas.”

The story continued with generational transitions, with Guillaume Tardy assuming winemaking duties in 2001. Embracing sustainability, the estate minimizes chemical use and champions composting. Their approach involves destemming, a seven-day cold soak, and minimal pigeage during fermentation. Élevage lasts approximately 18 months in oak barrels, with oak percentages tailored to wine type. Despite its modest size, the domaine yields limited quantities of single lieu-dit cuvées that are celebrated for their opulence, elegance, and profound fruit expression.

Much like his contemporaries, Guillaume is committed to continual refinement, fashioning expressive Côte de Nuits reds that epitomize terroir.
