Ceritas 2020: A Wildfire Vintage That Shines
The 2020 vintage in California was one of the most difficult and dramatic in recent history, as wildfires ravaged many parts of the state and threatened the quality and quantity of the grapes. Many winemakers had to make tough decisions on when and how to harvest, as well as how to deal with the potential effects of smoke taint on their wines.

However, despite the challenges, some producers managed to craft remarkable wines that reflect the resilience and adaptability of the California wine industry. One of them is John Raytek from Ceritas, who received high praise from the critics.

With a steadfast dedication to minimal intervention, Ceritas wines radiate a rare purity and razor-sharp focus, perfect for the discerning palate that seeks tension and precision. If you love Chardonnays that are laser-focused and Pinot Noirs that are pure and crunchy, this selection is a must-have.

Antonio Galloni is a fan and says:“Winemaking often comes down to making decisions in critical moments, usually in the heat of battle. John Raytek did exactly that in 2020. With fires threatening, Raytek harvested what he could and dropped as much as half the crop in other sites to push ripening ahead as much as possible. The result is a truly impressive set of 2020s. The wines are a bit lighter than most years but still full of flavor and character. I can’t recommend these wines highly enough.”
