Jamie Kutch’s 'Stellar' 2021 Pinot Noirs & Chardonnay

“Kutch’s wines have a distinct profile: crunchy in feel, with briary tannins that add dimension and lift to the pure, elegant fruit.”
– James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

We are delighted to start the week with an offer featuring the delicious 2021s Pinots & Chardonnay from Jamie Kutch!

From Wall Street to Sonoma Coast Vineyards
Jamie Kutch, once a Wall Street professional, followed his passion for winemaking and crafted his inaugural Pinot Noir vintage in 2005 (and his first chardonnay in 2013). With an unwavering dedication to excellence, Jamie meticulously chooses vineyard sites, expanding his production only when he unearths the perfect combination of cool climates, ideal positioning, and coveted soil types.

In Pursuit of Balance
Kutch wines are Jamie’s labour of love, and they unmistakably shine through every glass. A pioneer in the ‘In Pursuit of Balance’ movement within North American winemaking, Jamie is committed to capturing the pure essence of its terroir. Each cluster is kept whole and hand-sorted, undergoing fermentation with native yeasts. His Pinots gracefully mature in 100% neutral oak barrels, allowing vibrant fruit flavours to shine alongside a delightful crunchy texture.

For the critic above, the 2021 Pinots aregoing to be stellar…pure…the wine is bright, young and full-bodied, with excellent depth at the core…has outstanding backend lift “ from 93 to 95 points. In regards to the Trout Gulch Chardonnay, he declared that “2021 is a simply stunning bottle!” 94+ points.

2021 Kutch, McDougall Ranch Pinot Noir

6 cases (x12) @ SGD $960/ case (inc GST $1,036.80)

“McDougall Ranch vineyard is located up above the fogline on the Sonoma Coast, so it is the warmest pinot noir vineyard in the Kutch lineup. Nevertheless, it too comes in at an even thirteen percent alcohol in 2021 and delivers a refined aromatic constellation of black cherries, black plums, woodsmoke, a complex base of dark soil, gamebird, coffee bean, a nice touch of stems and an understated framing of oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and black fruity in personality, with an excellent core of fruit, fine mineral undertow and grip, ripe tannins and a long, complex and beautifully balanced finish. This is probably the most backward of the 2021 pinots that I tasted from Jamie (other than the Bohan Graveyard Block) and it will need a couple of additional years in the cellar to fully blossom, but it is going to be stellar. (Drink between 2033-2075)”

95 Points John Gilman

“The 2021 Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, spice, dried herbs, leather and tobacco add gravitas to this somber, imposing Pinot Noir. There’s serious depth and textural intensity here.”

2021 Kutch, Falstaff Vineyard Pinot Noir

10 cases (x12) @ SGD $960/ case (inc GST $1,036.80)

“I love Jamie Kutch’s wines, as every time I taste them, I think to myself “this is how I would make wine if I could.” Jamie always uses indigenous yeasts, raises the wines solely in used oak and bottles unfined and unfiltered. His 2021 Falstaff Vineyard bottling of pinot noir includes fifty percent whole clusters this year and is excellent, offering up a bright and complex nose of cherries, beetroot, a hint of blood orange, a refined base of soil, a touch of mustard seed, sweet stem tones and a very discreet framing of oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and beautifully transparent in personality, with a good core of red fruit, fine soil signature, buried tannins and a long, vibrant and complex finish of impeccable balance. (Drink between 2030-2075)”

94 Points John Gilman

“The 2021 Pinot Noir Falstaff Vineyard is linear and finely cut. Crushed flowers, spice, chalk, mint and rose petals all meld together in this nuanced Pinot. The Falstaff is a wine of vibrant energy more than anything else. (Drink between 2024-2035)”

2021 Kutch, Mindego Ridge Pinot Noir

6 cases (x12) @ SGD $960/ case (inc GST $1,036.80)

“The 2021 Kutch Wines “Mindego Ridge Vineyard” bottling of pinot noir comes in at an even thirteen percent octane this year and includes fifty percent whole clusters. Like all of Jamie’s pinots, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, raised in neutral French barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine delivers a beautiful, black fruity nose of dark berries, black cherries, coffee bean, a fine base of stony soil tones, sweet stem tones, a touch of oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a great core of fruit, tangy acids, ripe tannins, lovely balance and grip and a long, complex and energetic finish. This wine has outstanding backend lift and will be a stellar bottle when it is ready to drink. (Drink between 2031-2085)”

2021 Kutch, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

6 cases (x12) @ SGD $960/ case (inc GST $1,036.80)

“Jamie Kutch’s 2021 Sonoma Coast bottling of pinot noir includes fifty percent whole clusters in this vintage and comes in at an even thirteen percent octane. The wine offers up a superb aromatic constellation of cherries, beetroot, sweet stem tones, woodsmoke, raw cocoa, a refined base of soil tones, roses and a discrete foundation of new oak. On the palate the wine is bright, young and full-bodied, with excellent depth at the core, fine soil undertow and grip, ripe, buried tannins and a long, tangy and nascently complex finish. Structurally, this wine is certainly approachable right out of the blocks, but in terms of complexity, this is still a puppy and it would be infanticide to open a bottle until it has had at least a few years in the cellar to let all these layers emerge properly on the nose and palate! (Drink between 2026-2065)”

2021 Kutch, Trout Gulch Chardonnay

9 cases (x12) @ SGD $810/ case (inc GST $874.80)

“The 2021 Trout Gulch Vineyard from Kutch Wines is also made from quite old vines, with this vineyard having been planted in 1977. The wine is again raised in twenty percent new oak and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The beautiful bouquet is already a touch more expressive than the lovely Sonoma Coast bottling, offering up scents of apple, pear, almond, a hint of crème pâtissière, a gorgeous base of stony soil, orange zest, honeysuckle and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a superb core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and cut, bouncy acids and a very long, energetic and seamlessly balanced finish. This too comes in at an even thirteen percent in 2021 and is a simply stunning bottle of chardonnay! It is already delicious to drink, but it is still a puppy and will be even more dazzling if given four or five years’ worth of bottle age before having at it in earnest. (Drink between 2023-2045)”
