New Releases From Favia: Micro-Production Napa Gems

Some immensely exciting releases recently – that include ultra-rare library stocks – from one of California’s cult wineries, Favia. Made in the tiny amounts that make them especially tempting for Napa connoisseurs, the Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon and Cerro Sur Cabernet Franc are spectacular wines.

There is immense pedigree here as this is a project of Andy Erickson, now one of the most talented winemakers in Napa. Erickson has a CV that reads like a who’s who of the Napa elite, having worked at Paul Hobbs, Kongsgaard and Harlan Estate, while having consulted at the most famous of all, Screaming Eagle. For him to turn his attention to Favia shows it to be a wine of incredible potential, and it’s already delivering.

Like many in Napa in 2020, Favia’s production was impacted by the fires around Napa. This means that only small amounts of the Coobsville were made and none of the Cerro Sur. Because of this Favia has released library stocks of the 2015 Coombsville and 2014 Cerro Sur which, given the tiny output, provides an incredibly rare opportunity for the buyer to take Favia with a little bottle age. We may never see this happen again, making these releases just about unmissable.

These sold out in the wholesale market on release last year, so please do let us know at your earliest if you would like to secure an allocation.

2020 Favia, Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon
@ SGD $1,065 per case (1×3) OC (w/GST $1,150.20)
*Only 235 cases made*
“Loads of lead-pencil aromas, together with blackcurrant and oyster-shell notes that follow through to a medium to full body with a solid core of fruit and a long finish. It’s tight, with a compact mouth-feel. Give it two or three years. Better after 2025.”

2015 Favia, Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon
@ SGD $1,140 per case (1×3) OC (w/GST $1,231.20)
*Only 340 cases made*
“Another thrilling 2015 from winemaker Andy Erickson is the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville, which comes from vines not far from the estate. It has classic cool climate notes of blue fruits, violet, chocolate, and green tobacco. These all flow to a deep, concentrated, yet finesse-driven wine that has fine tannins, terrific mid-palate depth, and a huge finish. It shows the classic Coombsville complexity, purity, and freshness, and will keep for 2-3 decades.”

2014 Favia, Cerro Sur Cabernet Franc
@ SGD $1,140 per case (1×3) OC (w/GST $1,231.20)
*Only 475 cases made*
“The 2014 Cerro Sur is gorgeous. Fresh, vibrant and beautifully delineated, the 2014 speaks to energy above all else. Floral notes from the Cabernet Franc give the wine its aromatic intensity and lift, but at the same time, the wine is weightless, precise and lifted. The 2014 could use another few years in bottle. Today, it is brisk and finely cut, not to mention striking in its beauty.”
