Château Bélair-Monange: Four Highly Scored Vintages

Château Bélair-Monange boasts a premier vineyard location in Saint-Emilion, situated at the crest of a hillside adjacent to the renowned Ausone, near Canon and above Angelus – just that! This Premier Grand Cru Classé ranks among the region’s finest wines and continues to have a bright future under the guidance of the Moueix family’s vision and passion for excellence.

Château Bélair-Monange is all about respect and living harmoniously with its environment as Edouard Moueix explains:

“Our family lives in the château, our children play in the vineyards, our teams are housed in the plateau houses. This land has never seen herbicides under our management. The soils are worked, the plots have long fallow periods with green covers as natural fertilizers: mustard, barley, oats, corn spurrey, broad bean… […] The walls are preserved, they shelter rabbits while bats are numerous in the quarries.”

Therefore, we are delighted today to offer four splendid vintages of Château Bélair-Monange; 2011, 2016, 2018 & 2019 all highly rated and highly collectable! Lisa Perrotti-Brown loved them and gave 98 and 98+ points to the three most recent vintages. Finally, we have only 10 bottles left of the 2011, so do not wait if you want to add some of these to your cellar.

Chateau Belair-Monange 2011
10 bottles @ $150 per bottle (inc GST $160.50)
The 2011 Bélair-Monange has a very earthy, introspective bouquet, almost subdued compared to others, developing light minty aromas with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins, good fruit concentration with layers of blackberry, raspberry, fig and white pepper. Fine cohesion towards the finish, this conveys plenty of energy although it would benefit from a couple more years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting. (Drink between 2022-2040)

Chateau Belair-Monange 2016
89 bottles @ $225 per bottle (inc GST $240.75)
Deep garnet in color, the 2016 Belair-Monange slowly drifts out of the glass to offer gorgeous scents of black raspberries, boysenberry preserves, and baked plums, plus suggestions of Indian spices, sandalwood, and dried mint with a hint of crushed rocks. The palate is rich and full-bodied, delivering mouth-filling black fruits and exotic spice layers with a velvety texture and seamless freshness, finishing very long and perfumed.

Chateau Belair-Monange 2018
8 cases (1×6) OWC @ $1,300 per case (inc GST $1,391)
The 2018 Belair-Monange has a deep garnet purple color. It is very closed, slightly reduced, requiring a lot of swirling to reveal notes of black raspberries, warm plums, and kirsch, plus hints of pencil lead, wild sage, tilled soil, and wet slate. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy, with tight-knit fruit and lots of earth and mineral layers on the long finish.

Chateau Belair-Monange 2019
8 cases (1×6) OWC @ $1,250 per case (inc GST $1,337.50)
The 2019 Belair-Monange is a blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out with alluring notions of black raspberries, redcurrant jelly, preserved plums, and wild blueberries, plus hints of cinnamon stick, rose oil, underbrush, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, concentrated, and impactful, it has a solid line of ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and fragrant.
