"Some of the most exciting wines in Barbaresco" (Galloni) in a great year

These remain some of the most exciting wines in Barbaresco. Fans of classically built wines who have not tasted La Ca’ Nova yet owe it to themselves to do so
– Antonio Galloni on the 2021s / Vinous
Dear << Test First Name >>,

Vinum has followed La Ca’ Nova for several year now and with each release we puzzle over how such quality can be had for such modest prices.  Marco Rocca crafts Barbaresco of purity, classicism and finesse yet sells at prices that would make most of his neighbours blush.
Seriously, if La Ca’ Nova was in Chambolle Musigny, buyers would be queuing up to pay four times these prices.

We visited Marco in late February and loved what we found.  2021 is an exceptional year for Barbaresco that is expressive, supple, perfumed and elegant: everything we look for from the region.  With the highest Galloni score, Montestefano is sure to grab the headlines but it is almost impossible to go wrong here!

  • The straight Barbaresco normale is a screaming bargain with 94/100 – it will drink well right out of the gates yet we’d have no qualms putting it away for a decade.
  • With a massive 97/100 AG the Montefico is hardly any slouch and leaves many a more expensive wine red in the face.

People often ask how well these wines age, perhaps concerned by their modest price points.  The answer is, extremely well!  We tasted a very youthful 2012 with Marco and previously had a glorious 2006 that was still riding high on its drinking plateau.

With the kudos of a great vintage, combined with some eye-watering Galloni scores, matched to a quality:price ratio almost unparalleled in the world of fine wine, our allocation is sure to sell fast.  Please act quickly to secure your order and note that purchases of Montestefano are limited to 2×6 (12 bottles) per client.

Very best wishes,
Matthew Hemming MW

Barbaresco 2021
SG $315 (inc GST $343.35) per case (6*75cl OC)
The 2021 Barbaresco is exquisite. Bright and delineated, with tons of energy, the 2021 bristles with saline-infused energy. Red berry fruit, blood orange, chalk, mint and white pepper lend tons of energy to this deceptively mid-weight, nervy young Barbaresco. Vineyard sites are Ovello, Cole and Loreto.

Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina 2021
SG $375 (inc GST $408.75) per case (6*75cl OC)
The 2021 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is a classic. Crushed flowers, salt, white pepper, rose petal and lavender race across the palate. Just bottled, the 2021 is quite nervous, but it conveys striking energy and translucent finesse. The aromatics alone are beguiling. All this needs is time. In other words, it is classic Montefico.

Barbaresco Montestefano 2021
SG $390 (inc GST $425.10) per case (6*75cl OC)
** Limited to 2×6 per customer **
The 2021 Barbaresco Montestefano is one of the very best young wines I have tasted here. Dark, rich and intense, but also light on its feet, the 2021 dazzles from the very first taste. Dark red/blue fruit, lavender, licorice, gravel, dried herbs and menthol open with a bit of coaxing. The Montestefano possesses striking mid-palate depth, compelling inner perfume and mind-blowing balance. I loved it.
