Our buying team visited Napa late last year, and, one wine they constantly spoke of in glowing terms was the 2019 Inglenook Rubicon, it was a stand-out in a trip that took in some very serious addresses. Loved by us, and also rated at 100 points by Jane Anson, this is a gem of a wine, so we are delighted to have a well-priced parcel of original cases to offer.
In the 1940s, Inglenook was responsible for a series of wines so good that they elevated the reputation of the entire Napa region. However, it fell on hard times in the 1960s, only to be resurrected by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. In recent years there has been a steep upward trajectory in quality, with this flagship 2019 recapturing and, perhaps even bettering, past glories.
Made by Philippe Bascules, formerly the Estate Director of Chateau Margaux, this 2019 appealed to Bordeaux expert Jane Anson’s palate. For her, this is “Hard not to fall in love with” and “Somehow takes the power and concentration of Napa but makes it full of texture, life, light and shade”. Her 100-point score marks it out as flawless.
