A wine that ‘dazzles from the very first taste’, we are delighted to have access to the perfectly scored 2016 Barolo Runcot Riserva from Elio Grasso. With Antonio Galloni’s 100 point score, this highest ever score for the Runcot Riserva is a watershed moment for the estate and a wine that truly is a must-have for the collection.
We’ve made several trips to visit winemaker Gianluca Grasso in recent years and are huge fans of his wines. Made with incredible attention to detail and immense care, Grasso’s wines represent all that is best about contemporary Barolo. He is one of the most exciting producers in this region, as highlighted in an article in Forbes magazine last year entitled “influential Barolo Producers you Need to Know”.
The Runcot vineyard is located in front of the Cantina and is depicted on the label/ The wine is only produced in the very best vintages, 2017 and 2018 will not see a release so this could be the last for a while. The 2016 has seen four years ageing in oak and a total of seven years including bottle ageing before being released to the market.
The 2016 Runcot Riserva is a masterpiece demanding a place in the collection of all Barolo-lovers.

The 2016 Barolo Riserva Rüncot is quite possibly the single greatest wine I have tasted in more than twenty years I have been coming here, with the possible exception of the 1989s and 1990s. Deep and powerful, but not at all heavy, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. Dark cherry/plum fruit, menthol, lavender, licorice and mocha saturate the palate in a Barolo of extraordinary richness and intensity. The 2016 spent four years in 100% new oak, and yet there is no trace at all of wood. Magnificent! Drink 2026-2041.
