For anyone looking for an outstanding value aged Bordeaux from a great vintage, the 2010 Chateau Lagrange should be top of the list. With 95 points from Neal Martin, this is in the same league as some of the titans of the Left Bank in 2010, including Lafite, Lynch Bages and Pichon Lalande for Neal Martin, so is a strong buy at a fraction of the price.

2010 was the second of two outstanding years for Bordeaux. A more structured and classic counterpart to the more flamboyant 2009s, these 2010s were immensely popular on release and have only gained in popularity as they have aged and improved in bottle. Tasted in 2020 at a 10-Year-On horizontal by Neal Martin and showing superbly, St Julien’s Chateau Lagrange is a pick.

For Martin, “You could lose yourself in these aromatics” and “This is another outstanding Saint-Julien. Superb” and he gives a predicted drinking window of 2022 to 2055. His 95-point score at this tasting puts it in some very illustrious company.

As the table of comparably scored wines from the same tasting in Feb 2020 shows, this is a superb Lagrange, punching above its price point. For the shrewd buyer, it’s an eye-catching option.
