The 2012 Dominus is one of the stand-out wines from a recent retrospective by Antonio Galloni on the 2012 and 2013 Napa vintages. At just over a decade in age, this has emerged from a closed phase and is now “Magnificent” for Galloni. It’s a superb red to drink now and in the coming decades so we are delighted to have a couple of cases to offer.

The project of Christian Moueix of Chateau Petrus fame, Dominus is Napa of immense pedigree that effortlessly combines the best of Old and New Worlds in one incredible package. The top vintages are unmissable and this 2012, a wine of “Deep and vibrant, with terrific freshness”, has just joined the ranks of the all-time greats.

The 2012 Dominus is a wild, exotic wine. Harvest began on October 9 and finished on the 21st, very late by present-day standards. Ripe red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, rose petal, incense and rose petal soar out of the glass. Deep and vibrant, with terrific freshness, Dominus is very clearly one of the wines of the year. I loved the 2012 from barrel, but found it quite closed after bottling. Now, after all these years, I finally see the realization of the potential suggested in my barrel tastings.
