2021 Y de Yquem - Limited New Release From A Bordeaux Icon
*Yquem’s rare dry white wine*
*2021 was an excellent white Bordeaux vintage*
*Very difficult to find after release, so is one to buy now*
The Y de Yquem is a dry white Bordeaux of tremendous pedigree. Made in tiny amounts from the same vineyards and with the same care, attention to detail and precision as the iconic sweet Chateau Yquem, it is always sought-after on release. We are delighted to have some of the newly released 2021 Y de Yquem to offer.
No expense is spared with the ‘Y’. As mentioned, this comes from the same vineyards as the Grand Vin and is made from individually selected bunches selected as more suited for the dry rather than the sweet. The winemaking applied to these precious bunches is as good as it gets; this means an immense wine with a loyal following.
Although not yet tased by the critics, this looks an excellent prospect. 2021 was a superb vintage for dry whites. For Antonio Galloni, “Two-thousand twenty-one is a brilliant vintage for the dry whites of Bordeaux… the wines have the energy that is often associated with cooler seasons, but the textural richness that is often only achieved in warm years. That duality makes the best 2021 whites compelling and absolutely riveting in the finest examples.”
For Jeff Leve, it was “this is the best vintage for white Bordeaux wine in years. The wines offer everything fans of Bordeaux Blanc could ever want in a wine.”
With just 10,000 bottles made in a typical vintage, this is a rare wine, to say the least, and means that even on release allocations are tight. As such, if you’d like any, please don’t hesitate to let me know, as there’s a very good chance this will sell out.
