Sister winery to Pomerol’s iconic Chateau Le Pin, L’If has been on a phenomenal upward trajectory since being purchased by Jacques Thienpont of Le Pin in 2010 and since then the 1,000 or so cases made each year have been one of Bordeaux’s hottest tickets. The 2019 Chateau L’If, with a huge 97+ point score from Antonio Galloni, is one to buy.
Looking at Galloni’s note, this is a fantastic vintage of L’If. For him, “The 2019 L’If is the sort of wine I would like to spend hours with” and “At times the 2019 is opulent and quite racy, and yet in other moments it’s the underlying minerality and tension in the wine that are most evident”. He goes on to advise his readers, “L’If is a wine to buy and cellar for a decade or more”.

2019 Chateau L’If
The 2019 L’If is the sort of wine I would like to spend hours with. There is just too much to it. At times the 2019 is opulent and quite racy, and yet in other moments its the underlying minerality and tension in the wine that are most evident. Black cherry, herb, incense, licorice and mocha gradually open over time. The 25% Cabernet Franc comes through nicely, both in the wine’s aromatic profile and overall structure. L’If is a wine to buy and cellar for a decade or more. I loved it. (2022) www.vinous.com Drink 2029-2049
