Pol Roger’s famous Winston Churchill is a fantastic Grande Marque Champagne that benefits hugely from a good amount of bottle age. Back-vintages are, therefore, always in high demand, so when we found a well-priced parcel of the 2006, we swooped in it.

Named after its most famous patron and designed to reflect the make-up of the cuvee at the time that Winston Churchill was enjoying it, Pol Roger’s flagship cuvee is a real gem. A high proportion of Pinot Noir means a full-bodied and complex style that complements Pol Roger’s luxurious style.

For Jancis Robinson it’s a triumph, “Round and magnificent” and so delicious that it’s “impossible to spit.” The Wine Spectator was also impressed, finding that it “dances gracefully on the palate, with rich and expressive flavors”. James Suckling calls it “Super pure, there’s power amongst the charm. This is a great ’06”.
