The 100 Point 2015 Mugnier Musigny At The Market's Best Price

*A 100-point masterpiece from a benchmark Burgundy vintage*
*Best price on the global market*
*Only 1 case available*

We are delighted to offer a banded original case of one of the finest wines of the incredible 2015 red Burgundy vintage, the J-F Mugnier Musigny at the best price on the global market. With a 100-point score from William Kelley and 99 from Neal Martin and Jasper Morris, this is a magnificent expression of one of the region’s most revered wines.

Musigny is a revered vineyard. For Clive Coates it’s one of the very greatest climats in the whole of the Cote D’Or and can be quite simply the most delicious wine to be found in Burgundy… heaven in a glass.” Jasper Morris concurs, calling it “one of Burgundy’s outstanding Crown Jewels and he places it above even Chambertin on the qualitative tree. It has a mythical aura, as do the wines that come from here… none more so than that of Mugnier.

Mugnier’s Musigny is one of Grand Cru Burgundy’s ultimate trophies and for Coates “A wine at the summit of what Burgundy can produce”. Supply is minuscule and, since those with it are seldom inclined to let theirs go, it appears for sale fleetingly and only in tiny amounts.

Readers may remember my admiration for the 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru shortly after it was bottled. Today, as the wine is released onto the market, my enthusiasm is undiminished, as the wine is showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of cherries, raspberries, rose petals, exotic spices, orange rind and hints of smoked duck and forest floor. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it’s seamless and complete, with terrific concentration, powdery tannins and lively animating acids that come together in an effortless ensemble. Concluding with a broad, expansive finish, five years in Mugnier’s cellars before release haven’t brought the wine to anywhere near its ultimate peak, but they have at least given a sense of the direction of travel! The 2015 Musigny Grand Cru offers compelling estuarine and oyster shell scents on a complex, extremely well focused nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin, pure blackberry and raspberry fruit, and enthralling mineralité that seems to blossom toward the aristocratic finish. This is a fabulous wine, a Musigny flirting with perfection – and a serious contender for wine of the vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (2018) www.vinous.com

This is fabulous from first sight and first sniff. An imperial purple robe, nothing black. The nose is sensual but controlled, majestic yet within a properly structured set of guidelines. At this level one cannot isolate flavours or it wouldn’t be as great a wine! Sumptuous mouthful is too easy to say, some liquorice at the back, with more red fruit than black, and good acidity. A magical wine for the long term future. Drink from 2030-2050. Tasted: November 2022.

Offered subject to final confirmation. Available from our UK cellars. Offer expires 23rd August 2024.
