This excellent Domaine’s strength lies in its enviable holding in Chambolle Musigny. They are experts in the terroirs of this appellation and getting the best from them, while still displaying a clear house style. To Jasper Morris “the overall effect of tasting at the domaine is to come away with a palate coated in sensual Chambolle fruit.” As such if you love the charming, aromatic and ethereal wines of this outstanding village, Ghislaine Barthod should be high on your wish list.

A beautiful and wonderfully complex nose that has reached full maturity speaks of elegant secondary fruit aromas and subtle spice and stone notes, both of which slide over to the velvety middle weight flavors that coat the mouth on the lingering finish. “Deep ruby. Here the notably ripe nose is much more discreet if every bit as elegant with upper register aromas of red, black and blue fruits tinged with hints of violets and wet stone that dissolve into textured, dusty and beautifully precise flavors that are long and linear. This too seems to be built on a base of minerality, indeed at present it seems almost aggressively so and the transparency is perhaps the best of the entire range as is the complexity though ultimately, I think the Les Cras will catch it.
