New Release: The 99 Point Henri Giraud Cuvee Argonne 2016
We are delighted to offer our allocation of the newly-released 2016 vintage of one of Champagne’s most interesting and elusive cuvees, the Henri Giraud Cuvee Argonne. A showcase for the quality of Pinot Noir from Ay and a masterpiece in the use of the finest oak, this is a 99-point superstar for the true Champagne connoisseur.
Henri Giraud is a phenomenal producer, one that takes the concept of attention to detail to a whole new level. Argonne is barrel-fermented for body and texture and these barrels play such a vital part in the character of the cuvee that the trees from which they are made are hand-picked by the winemaking team directly from the Argonne forest. This remarkable level of care has paid off, as Antonio Galloni once said, “Consistency is one of the hallmarks of elite domaines, and Giraud has been at the top for some time”.
Galloni hasn’t sampled the 2016 Argonne yet, but James Suckling has and found it to be near-perfect. For him, it is “a powerful but elegant wine with a wealth of citrus-fruit freshness” and “Tense and driven, with so much mineral freshness and focus” with an “Endless finish”.
Argonne is always a sumptuous, luxurious, complex and gastronomic Champagne of immense quality. The 2016 continues that trend, the latest in a long run of magnificent wines.

This is a powerful but elegant wine with a wealth of citrus-fruit freshness, blood orange and grapefruit, as well as toast, dried citrus blossom, white lavender, clove, cardamom and spices. Tense and driven, with so much mineral freshness and focus. Very tight bead of bubbles. Endless finish. This will age incredibly well, but you are want to drink it right away. Try after 2026. (2024)
