2016 Lynch Bages: A 99-Point Superstar From A Profound Vintage

*From a blue-chip chateau and one of the all-time great vintages*
*Same Jane Anson score as Mouton Rothschild*
*Only six cases available*

2016 Chateau Lynch Bages provides a near-faultless expression of one of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of all time. Scored at 99 points by Jane Anson in 2022, this is “Great stuff” that provides First Growth quality at a fraction of the cost.

A so-called ‘Flying Fifth’, Pauillac’s Lynch Bages has a reputation for over-performing and producing wines that punch well above what you might expect from its Fifth Growth classification. This 2016 is the perfect example and, with this massive 99point rating, matches the Pauillac First Growth of Mouton Rothschild in 2016 for Jane Anson. It’s a remarkable achievement that makes the price particularly compelling.

These top 2016s are the sort of Bordeaux that you simply cannot own too much of and come very highly recommended. We only have a few cases of this one to offer, so please do let us know at your earliest if you would like any.

£1,140 per case (12*75cl OWC) in bond – 5 cases available

Muscular but finely-tuned, with a floral, rose-stem edge to Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant flavours that elevates this beyond its surrounding vintages, as is often the case with exceptional 2016s on the Left Bank. Give it time in the glass if you are going near it any time soon, and allow the brambled fruits to appear, with creamy black cherry and damson puree on full display finessed with pencil lead, plum pudding, liqourice and slate-strewn tannins that give a mouth-watering finish. Great stuff, this is one to savour over the long term. 75% new oak. (2022) www.janeanson.com Drink 2026-2046
