No, Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot is neither DRC nor Leroy. However, amongst the ranks of the younger generation gradually taking over their family estates, CLF is one of the brightest stars of Burgundy with the scores and the accolades to match. Thomas Collardot has become increasingly confident in his thoughtful approach to winemaking and has brought his domaine to the forefront of the Vosne Romanee young guns.
As with many conscientious and quality-driven estates, 2023 is a resounding success for Coquard-Loison-Fleurot. It helps that the domaine enjoys phenomenal vineyard holdings: they boast a wealth of precious Grand Crus without labouring under an unmanageable ocean of village wine. In 2023, Thomas used 15-20% of whole clusters to bring aromatic complexity and freshness to his wines. The vines were managed, and harvest date selected, to lock balancing acidity into the wines and alcohol levels are generally in the moderate 12.5-13.5% range, with nothing hitting 14%. The influence of new oak is also kept in check, with 50% for the Grand Crus and around 30% for the village wines.
All this adds up to a range of 2023s that are pure, agile and expressive. Thomas Collardot feels the structure and balance are sufficient to age well, and there will be wines to surprise and delight at all levels.
2023 is not the vintage for the complex linking of purchases and tying lots of village wines to the top Crus. Thankfully, the CLF range supports this and we are keen to try and make these wines as widely accessible to our customers as we are able. With this in mind, we have taken the decision that each case of village wine purchased will qualify for up to two cases of the Grand Crus. Our allocation is not enormous and I am sure we will still be over-subscribed, so orders will be subject to confirmation as with previous 2023 offers, but I also hope this opens up availability of some of the top wines of the vintage.
Very best wishes,
Matthew Hemming MW
The Offer:
Offered subject to confirmation; we will confirm allocations within one week. Each case of village wine ordered qualifies for a maximum of 12 bottles of Grand Cru. Grand Crus are restricted to one case of each wine per order. For example: one case of Chambolle Musigny, one case of Clos Vougeot and one case of Echezeaux. This is an en primeur order and wines will be available for delivery in SG later in 2025.
2023 Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot
Chambolle Musigny
SGD $660 ($719.40 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
A greater depth of ruby with more evident concentration on the nose. Joyous red berries, correct oak and just enough lift from the small amount of whole bunch. We retasted when Thomas realised he had put too much new oak in the sample. Now with more tension and definition. Drink from 2028-2031.
90-92pts – Jasper Morris MW / Inside Burgundy
from Les Gamaires). A deft but not imperceptible application of wood sets off more elegant and more layered aromas of red cherry, raspberry and a violet top note. The super-sleek, refined and punchy flavors possess an almost delicate mouthfeel that carries over to the markedly stony and youthfully austere finale. This could use better depth so a few years of cellaring should be helpful.
88-91pts – Allen Meadows / Burghound
Gevrey Chambertin
SGD $600 ($654 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
Glowing purple, with a more classic nose, some strawberry in the fruit mix. Magical intensity despite the crop size, then a gentler more fluid finish, with a light tannin to finish. Drink from 2028-2032
90-92pts – Jasper Morris MW
(from Champerrier Bas plus parcels in En Songe and Vignes Belles). This is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction and here it’s enough to overshadow the fruit. By contrast, there is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the supple, delicious and caressing medium weight flavors that possess fine length on the youthfully austere finale. This could however use better depth so a few years of proper cellaring are advised.
89-91pts – Allen Meadows
Morey Saint Denis
SGD $600 ($654 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
A vivid ruby purple. The nose is stricter but still joyous. No sign of dilution but a gorgeous intensity of perfectly ripe fruit, good acidity and a lovely finale. Still on a roll! Drink from 2028-2032.
90-93pts – Jasper Morris MW
(from Les Crais Gillon, Clos Solon, En Seuvrey and Corvée Creunille). High-toned aromas of the essence of red currant are cut with subtle floral and spice wisps, in particular anise. The punchy medium-bodied flavors possess a beguiling mouthfeel along with more power, if less evident minerality, on the balanced, sneaky long and slightly more complex finale. Lovely and worth a look.
89-91pts – Allen Meadows
Vosne Romanee
SGD $690 ($752.10 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
30 barrels! A lively fresh ruby, animated fresh raspberry, with an airy lift. This really is a thing of beauty, with just the right structure to back up the quality of the fruit. No feeling of dilution, a masterful hand at work. Subtle detail without loss of intensity. Drink from 2028-2034.
92-94pts – Jasper Morris MW
(from Les Chalandins, Quartiers de Nuits, Les Violettes and Basses Maizières). An ultra-fresh and exuberantly spicy nose features note of plum, red cherry, tea and a whiff of violet. The rich, delicious and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors deliver both fine length and depth on the balanced, firm and sleek finish. This is an excellent Vosne villages and worth your interest.

Grand Cru wines tied 2:1 to village Crus:
Each case of village wine qualifies for a maximum of 2 cases of Grand Cru
Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
SGD $1,650 ($1,798.50 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
** Maximum 1 case per order & subject to tie-in**
Heading towards full purple. While there is plenty of density, there is not yet much detail in the fruit on the nose. On the palate, the darker berry fruit kicks in across the middle, before a more formal raft of tannins. A good solid example of what Clos Vougeot should be. Drink from 2031-2038.
93-95pts – Jasper Morris MW
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, which finished its malo later than others, is a little reticent in this tasting from barrel. Despite coaxing, these aromatics are not coming out to play. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins that frame the licorice-tinged black fruit. Quite sorbet-fresh, it’s rather high-toned toward the finish. This is a fine Clos Vougeot, albeit outclassed by their other Grand Crus this year.
92-94pts – Neal Martin / Vinous
Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
SGD $1,800 ($1,962 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
** Maximum 1 case per order & subject to tie-in**
A vivid purple with good depth. Like the Clos Vougeot, the Charmes is not immediately flamboyant on the nose. There is some intensity even so on the palate, maybe more complete, with a rounded, sensual, vivid, red berry fruit, fewer tannins and more of a velvety texture. Notably long. Drink from 2030-2038.
94-97pts – Jasper Morris MW
The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru shows just a little reduction on the nose, but it gains intensity with aeration, developing violet and peony scents with time. The palate is medium-bodied and well balanced with fine tannins. There is a little more complexity and personality here than the preceding Clos Vougeot, with a sorbet-fresh finish. Give this four to five years in bottle. Good potential.

Echezeaux Grand Cru
SGD $1,950 ($2,125.50 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
** Maximum 1 case per order & subject to tie-in**
Medium purple. There is very little nose initially, needing teasing out, but refined, certainly. Thomas Collardot thinks the 2023 is better than 2022 because of its subtlety and I can certainly see some of this quality in the mouth. Wavelets of fresh red berries, just a little pepper and lacy detail. I will settle on parity with 2022. Drink from 2030-2037.
95-97pts – Jasper Morris MW
The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet with brambly red fruit, sous-bois and touches of pressed rose petal blossoming in the glass. There is very fine delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It is quite svelte in texture, with pinpoint acidity and a mineral-laden finish that lingers long in the mouth. This cuvée actually surpasses the 2022.

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
SGD $1,950 ($2,125.50 inc GST) per case (6*75cl OC) – 6 cases available
** Maximum 1 case per order & subject to tie-in**
The usual classy fresh colour. The bouquet is a thing of beauty, very subtle, also supple, with floral notes. Silky in texture, the fruit is a darker red here, plus blueberry, more sensual than savoury though the finish brings us back to classic Clos de la Roche. All in harmony Drink from 2032-2040.
95-97pts – Jasper Morris MW
The 2023 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru doesn’t quite have the panache of the Echézeaux on the nose, a bit obdurate at the moment thanks to a reduction that doesn’t shift in the glass. A second glass is called for, and this is much more representative: more red fruit, raspberry and cranberry, and a touch of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with black cherries and blood orange on the entry. It is a “sunny” Clos de la Roche with sweet fruit and candied orange peel toward the finish. This is a well-crafted Clos de la Roche, but it’s a small step behind the 2022.
94-96pts – Neal Martin
