The Delon family had a stellar 2022. Not only is their flagship wine, Leoville Las Cases (thanks to an incredible six potential 100 point scores from the critics) itself perhaps the wine of the vintage, but sister winery, Chateau Nenin of Pomerol is brilliant, we think possibly the best we’ve ever tried here en primeur. It’s just been released and comes highly recommended.
With a high proportion of Cabernet Franc in the blend, Nenin is typically a serious and structured Pomerol with a great capacity to age. It can be tricky to taste from barrel, but not in 2022. We found it sumptuous, velvet, rich and succulent, with great purity of fruit and a rounded polished finish.
It really is excellent, and the critics agree. For William Kelley, this is “rich, succulent and seamless, its ample core of fruit largely concealing its sweet, powdery tannins”. Lisa Perrotti-Brown noted, “The medium to full-bodied palate is plush and soft spoken, with layers of fragrant black fruit and a long spicy finish”. They each award it an excellent 93-95 points.
