New Release: 2011 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rose
“The kind of wine you just want to sit alone in a lilac arbor and pour yourself large sips of while smiling at the fact that you are extremely spoiled”
– Richard Juhlin
We are delighted to offer the newly-released 2011 vintage of Taittinger’s rare and exclusive Comtes de Champagne Rose. The smallest production cuvee of this superb house, this blend of Grand Cru Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 14% of still red wine, the Comtes de Champagne Rose is a beautiful Champagne.
As mentioned, Taittinger Comtes is one of the smallest production of the Grande Marque Champagnes, and there is never much to go around. The Rose is significantly rarer than the Blanc. We don’t know the exact number of bottles made, but it’s safe to say that owners of this are in a pretty exclusive club.
Notes from the critics highlight the qualities of the 2011 Comtes Rose. For Yohan Castaing of The Wine Advocate, it is “complex and incipiently spicy” on the nose and “layered and vinous, with chalky structuring extract, it concludes with a long, sapid finish” on the palate. For Richard Juhlin, it is “The kind of wine you just want to sit alone in a lilac arbor and pour yourself large sips of while smiling at the fact that you are extremely spoiled”.
Released only now after an incredible 12 years in Taittinger’s cellars, this is a gem. Details are below, do take a look and let us know if you would like a case or two.

The 2011 Brut Comtes de Champagne Rosé is a blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, including fully 14% of red wine that lends it notable depth of color this year. Evoking aromas of cherries, buttery pastry, raspberries and tangerine, with an attractive minty top note, the bouquet is complex and incipiently spicy. Medium to full-bodied, layered and vinous, with chalky structuring extract, it concludes with a long, sapid finish. The limitations of the vintage mean that this is a giving, rather open-knit Comtes Rosé, but it is nevertheless a great effort in a challenging year and exhibits none of the herbaceous qualities that mar some of the wines produced in this year. Drink it now and over the next decade. (2023)

Super dense and deliciously creamy. Deep red color, soft seductive texture and huge fruit pumped length. Modern and fruit-driven with the house’s signature intact. The kind of wine you just want to sit alone in a lilac arbor and pour yourself large sips of while smiling at the fact that you are extremely spoiled to enjoy it like this. A perfect champagne for this summer’s Champagne Hikings.
