Stunning Pinot Noir & Chardonnay From Arista - From the Ex-Winemaker of Marcassin
Arista is a Sonoma winery to have on the radar. The estate was bought by Mark and Ben McWilliams and they achieved an incredible coup by poaching winemaker Matt Courtney and his clear team from the mighty Marcassin. The results have been astonishing, and these wines fantastic value given the quality and pedigree.
The 2019 Lucky Well Pinot Noir is a 97-point superstar. For Erin Brooks of the Wine Advocate, this “offers a lovely aromatic blend of fruit and earth, with layers of blueberries, orange peel, mushrooms, violet, moss and tobacco”and “structured with powdery tannins and energetic acidity that highlight its citrus and earthy nuances on the persistent finish”. Only 657 cases were made in 2019.
The 2019 Russian River Valley Chardonnay is equally compelling. Made from a selection go blended single-vineyard wines, it is “satiny and expansive with concentrated, toasty fruit, refreshing acidity and a long, flavorful finish” and “is wonderfully inviting to drink and impressive quality for a “basic” appellation cuvée”.

2019 Arista, Russian River Valley Chardonnay
(6*75cl OC) @ £325 per case in bond
95 points The Wine Advocate (Erin Brooks)
Arista’s Russian River Chardonnay is blended from their portfolio of single-vineyard wines, rather than from purchased or declassified fruit. The 2019 Chardonnay Russian River Valley incorporates around 18% to 20% new oak maturation and is scented of quince and peach with touches of toast, matchstick and crushed almonds. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and expansive with concentrated, toasty fruit, refreshing acidity and a long, flavorful finish. This is wonderfully inviting to drink and impressive quality for a “basic” appellation cuvée. (2013)
