Chateau Le Pin - Four Vintages With Perfect Provenance
Our Bordeaux buyer has just been offered a small parcel of the iconic Pomerol, Chateau Le Pin, with up to nearly 20 years of perfect provenance. Newly released from the cellars of this tiny property in Pomerol, these bottles of the 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2012 vintages are ultra-rare and highly desirable.
Each of these is a fascinating expression of this famed estate, where the unique terroir of deep clay means sumptuous, exotic and luxurious wines. For Robert Parker, the 2004 is “Super-opulent for the vintage, it possesses wonderful fruit and glycerin” and is worthy of 95 points. For William Kelley, the 2008 is “a classic”. Neal Martin calls the 2011 “rounded and pure, velvety in texture” and the 2012 “beautifully defined and quite ravishing”.
Ex-chateau stock from Le Pin is nearly impossible to source as so little is made, and therefore, only tiny amounts remain at the property. Chances to buy such stock are fleeting in the extreme. So do take a look and let us know at your earliest if you would like to secure any of these bottles.

There are 580 cases of the exotic, flamboyant 2004 Le Pin. Its dense plum/ruby color is accompanied by sweet aromas of kirsch, cassis, smoke, earth, and roasted herbs. Super-opulent for the vintage, it possesses wonderful fruit and glycerin, medium to full body, and a fleshy personality. It should drink well young, yet age nicely for two decades or more. The 2008 Le Pin is a classic that’s evolving more slowly than the 2009 or 2010. Unwinding in the glass with a deep and youthfully primary bouquet of dark berries, cherries, exotic spices, vanilla pod and petals, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and vibrant, with a concentrated core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, penetrating finish. While it can be drunk with pleasure today, it still possesses plenty of upside. (2022)

The 2011 Le Pin is quite high-toned on the nose with pure black cherries, Seville orange mocha and fig, well defined and developing more pressed flower aromas with aeration. The palate is rounded and pure, velvety in texture, slightly lower in acidity than its peers but very harmonious with a touch of spice towards the finish. This seems to manifest more complexity with aeration with a prolonged spicy aftertaste. This is actually showing better than the bottle that I drank in 2020. 2012 Chateau Le Pin (ex Chateau)

The 2012 Le Pin was tasted from magnum at the château. Showing a little bricking on the rim, it has a gorgeous bouquet with red fruit, rusty piping, black truffle and sandalwood, beautifully defined and quite ravishing. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. This is a very mellow Le Pin, lithe and beautifully focused with a fine bead of acidity. The finish has just a little warmth, but it caresses the mouth with a beguiling finish. Evolving beautifully. (2022)
