A Rare Karuizawa - The First Pair of The Mirrored Geisha Series

We are delighted to offer the now rarely seen first pair in the Karuizawa Mirrored Geisha Series – the Aika Geishas. Available at GBP 45,000 per 2 bottle set, this is where it all started for this famous series, which has recently ended with the last mirrored set released to the market.

This very first Mirrored Geisha set was released at The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show back in 2014 and is a duo that features one bottle matured in Bourbon cask and one bottle matured in Sherry Cask. As the story goes, the tasting bottles were emptied by enthusiastic visitors within the first few minutes of each day and the whisky was sold out soon after. It’s not been easy to find in the intervening nine years!

Each of the bottles here features a mirror-image label of a geisha hiding behind her fan and was the first release of its kind, going on to become the Mirrored Geisha series. The original bottlers, Elixir Disitllers, explain the ideas behind the series below.

‘The Karuizawa Geisha series was created to celebrate the skill, beauty and tradition of both the geisha and this great Japanese distillery, which closed in 2001 and was then demolished in 2016. The geishas are often misunderstood, their artistry misconstrued as the product of a bygone era, and these iconic labels, designed by Elixir Distillers creative director Raj Chavda, represent different aspects of what it means to be a geisha and the skills and fortitude required to become one.’
