Ata Rangi Pinot Noir: Sophisticated, Perfumed and Sensational Value

Perfumed, sophisticated, layered, packed with energy and frankly delicious, the Pinot Noirs made Ata Rangi of Martinborough in New Zealand are the proverbial must-buys. combining quality, rarity and value in uncommon style, they punch well above their price points given their status are benchmark Pinots. We have two vintages of Ata Rangi Pinot Noir to offer today, the newly-released 2021 and exquisite 2020.

Each of these is a stunning example of Martinborough Pinot Noir and showcases why it is a real insider’s choice. The 2021 is Zesty and layered wine with beautiful balance and complexity” for James Suckling and gets 97 points, while the 2020 is Supremely vibrant and perfumed… providing wonderful depth and complexity” and gets 98 points.

Given the elegance and refinement of these Pinots, comparisons with Burgundy are obvious. They would also be unfair as they are very much their own wines and are packed with the specific character and profile that could only come from Martinborough. However, what would be fair to say is that if you love red Burgundy, and particularly Burgundies from Chambolle Musigny, you’ll find an awful lot to love here; with the added bonus that you won’t have to wait to drink them as they are delicious already.

Overall production at At Rangi is tiny at just a few thousand cases in total. This means that there is never much to go around and that we have only a small amount to offer. Details are below and do let us know at your earliest if you would like to secure any.

Lively and vibrant red fruits of wild strawberries and red cherries followed by rose hips, ground spices and a touch of citrus zest. A beautiful nose of sliced strawberries, crushed cherries, violets, grated nutmeg and a hint of white pepper. Some hibiscus, too.
