Bass Phillip - Cult Collectable Pinot Noir

We are delighted to offer two vintages of one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most revered Pinot Noirs, Bass Phillip. A true cult collectable, this small production Pinot from Gippsland in Victoria has won an army of fans and is always intensely difficult to find. We were thrilled, therefore, to source this parcel of the 2019 and 2020 vintages of the Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir

Through the 1990s and 2000s Bass Phillips reputation grew immensely. Low yields and dense planting meant dazzling wines with depth, complexity and panache. As the vast majority of the production never left the shores of Australia, it also had an aura of mystery, and bottles became real trophies for those able to track them down.

A parcel such as this that provides quantity across two vintages thus looks to be a stunning opportunity. The 2020 is yet to be scored, but the 2019 has and is a beauty: layered and complex” for Decanter.

Details are below, do take a look and let us know if you would like to secure a case or two.

2019 Bass Phillip, Estate Pinot Noir
£375 per case (6*75cl OC)  in bond
93 points Decanter
Australia’s most famous – and expensive – Pinot Noir estate (the 2019 Reserve will set you back about £900/bottle) was recently bought by Burgundy’s Jean-Marie Fourrier, but this vintage was founder Philip Jones’ last. It’s a beauty: layered and complex flavours of cherry conserve, nutmeg and cinnamon, wet soil, rhubarb freshness and firm, black tea tannins. (2023) www.decanter.com Drink 2023-2034
