We are delighted to offer the opening 2023 releases from our friends at Jean-Pierre Moueix this morning. Long-term stalwarts of our portfolio, and regular features in many a collection of fine Pomerol, Chateaux La Grave and Latour a Pomerol represent two facets of this famous appellation.
Chateau La Grave Trigant de Boisset, to give its full name, was Christian Moueix’s first vineyard purchase back in 1971. Predominantly Merlot, from a small 8-hectare vineyard of gravel and fine clay, La Grave is an archetypal bold and deeply-flavoured Pomerol. The 2023 is no exception, boasting density, richness and a sumptuous texture alongside the natural lift of the vintage.
Chateau Latour a Pomerol is an insiders’ gem that we at Vinum have championed for years. Those in the know buy this chateau year in, year out. Despite being 100% Merlot the terroir, with a higher proportion of clay than La Grave, yields an expression of Pomerol that is mineral, floral and elegant. Formerly owned by the same Madame Loubat who owned Petrus, the Moueix family have farmed this site since the 1960s but it was only last year that they finally acquired ownership of the estate.
Having represented the Moueix family in Singapore for many years, we are thrilled to receive privileged allocations of these two wines in this excellent vintage. La Grave promises rewarding and generous drinking in just a few years and I would be sorely tempted to buy this in magnum for dinner parties. Latour a Pomerol is a wine of quiet sophistication – it punches well above its price point and should be drunk after you’ve finished the mags of La Grave!
With warmest wishes,
Matthew Hemming MW
The 2023 La Grave-Trigant-de-Boisset unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, dark berries, pencil shavings and a subtle touch of mint, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple palate that’s broad, layered and textural, with good density at the core and velvety structuring tannins.

The wine shows a lovely core of fruit with a dense and creamy tannin structure. Medium- to full-bodied with solid depth and nice persistence. Notes of crushed stones and walnuts at the end. 89% merlot and 11% cabernet franc.

Jean-Pierre Moueix’s “fermage” of this estate began in 1962, and his eponymous firm has only just acquired ownership of the vineyards to produce the 2023 Latour à Pomerol, which gives one a sense of how long it can take to acquire land in Pomerol! Offering up aromas of minty cherries, cassis, rose petals and petroleum jelly, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a generous core of sun-kissed fruit, sweet, powdery tannins and a broad, penetrating finish.
92-94pts – William Kelley
This is structured and focused, with firm tannins and a polished texture. Seamless and long with medium to full body. Deep and layered on the palate, building to a rather muscular finish. Big at the end. Almost rustic in style. 100% merlot.
94-95pts – James Suckling
