Domaine Raveneau: Stellar Selection Of Original Cases
“the best wines are capable of a level pure visceral thrill equaled at only a few other estates around the world”
– Antonio Galloni on Raveneau (2014)
We are delighted to offer the below selection of wines from a giant of Chablis – Domaine Raveneau. Spanning numerous vintages back to 2014, this represents a superb opportunity to pick up cases of this iconic domaine with varying degrees of maturity.
Founded in the late 1940s by François Raveneau, Raveneau has been a family-run estate for generations. Today, it is managed by François’s sons, Jean-Marie and Bernard Raveneau. The domaine owns and cultivates vineyards in some of the most coveted Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites in Chablis, and the Kimmeridgian limestone soils, coupled with the cool climate of the region, impart a distinctive mineral character to the wines.
We’ve seen a huge rise in demand for wines that have not just consistent excellence but a sense of tradition and authenticity that sets them apart. Rayas from the Rhone is a name that springs to mind, and Raveneau is very much in the same category. These are wines that have a difficult to define something special that sets them apart.
Do take a look and let us know if you would like any of these secured.

A more floral, elegant and pure nose displays notes of white fleshed fruit, citrus, ocean breeze and oyster shell hints. Once again there is terrific vibrancy to the succulent, round and delicious flavors that possess a seductive texture while offering notably solid if not exceptional depth on the lingering, lemony and well-balanced finale. Lovely. (2022)

A more elegant and ultra-cool nose reveals its combination of floral, citrus zest, iodine and that briny sea water character the best examples of Chablis all seem to possess, all of which is trimmed in moderate but not invasive wood. There isn’t quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. (2022)

A slightly riper nose reflects aromas of pear, apple, lemon-lime, algae and brine is trimmed in subtle wood nuances. The delicious, round and caressing medium-weight flavors are shaped by equally bright citrus-tinged acidity on the clean, dry and balanced finale. This is also an excellent example of the genre and I particularly like the texture. (2022)

As was the case from barrel, moderate reduction masks the underlying fruit so be sure to give this a through aeration. Otherwise, there is a highly appealing texture to the slightly finer medium weight flavors that also culminate in a relatively powerful and overtly lemony finish that exhibits slightly better depth and persistence. Note that this is also quite firmly structured and at least a decade of aging will be required to see this at its peak. In a word, terrific. (2021)

A discreet, even timid nose speaks of markedly cool, airy and admirably pure aromas of high-toned floral wisps, iodine and plenty of oyster shell and tidal pool nuances that are trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The racy, mineral-driven and ultra-refined middle weight flavors possess the finest and most delicate texture in the entire range, all wrapped in a strikingly long and strikingly layered finale. This is textbook MdT and a genuine knockout. (2021)

A discreet application of wood sets off ripe orchard fruit suffused with oyster shell, lemon zest and cool iodine wisps. There is again fine density to the intense and stony medium weight flavors that deliver impressive persistence for a straight Chablis. This too is relative powerful and robust and a wine that will need at least some patience, but it also is a wine to strongly consider. (2021)

Here too there is good freshness to the slightly riper aromas of grapefruit, quinine and sea breeze. The overtly rich and lush medium-bodied flavors possess an opulent mouthfeel along with a lovely texture while offering markedly better complexity on the balanced and lingering finish. This is really quite pretty and a wine that should amply reward mid-term cellaring. (2020)

2014 Domaine Raveneau, Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru

The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaillons has a gorgeous bouquet, far superior to the 2015, bridled with scents of apricot blossom, guava and wet limestone that are all beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, very saline in the mouth with a long and persistent finish. You can sense the animation in the mouth. This is a fabulous Chablis Vaillons that shimmers with glee. (2016) www.robertparker.com Drink 2019-2045
2014 Domaine Raveneau, Chablis Forets 1er Cru
£5,000 per case (12*75cl OC) in bond – 1 case available

This is turning out to be even better than I originally envisioned with its classic nose offering plenty of Chablis character on the cool, pure and airy aromas that are comprised mostly of smoky white orchard fruit and various citrus scents. The racy, intense and overtly mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a lovely mouth feel before culminating in a textured, balanced and saline finish that is both bone dry and tightly wound. As one would reasonably expect given how young this is, the ’14 Forêt is very much still on the way up and while I opened a bottle out of curiosity, I would strongly advise allowing this beauty to at least reach its 10th birthday first.
