From “the Montrachet of Pouilly-Fuisse” (Parker) & Only £275 per 6 IB
When Robert Parker visited Domaine Ferret in the 1980s he couldn’t have been more impressed. For him, this was “the Montrachet of Pouilly-Fuisse” and crafted whites that “are better than… even many of the Grands Crus” of the Cote de Beaune. It is now owned by Jadot and the quality is still immense. We are, therefore, delighted to have a lovely example to offer, the 2021 Pouilly Fuisse Cuvee Tournant de Pouilly 1er Cru.
Allen Meadows has tasted this and, like Parker, is a fan. For him, these 2021s are “very promising and I recommend.. them to you”. Of the Hors Tournant in particular, he says “the broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration and imposing power while delivering first-class length”. Indeed “Even by the excellent standards of this wine vintage in and vintage out, this is a big example in 2021”.
Back in the 80s Parker advised his readers “run, don’t walk to a shop that carries these selections.” A few decades on they are just as compelling, with this is a fantastic example.
2021 Domaine Ferret, Pouilly Fuisse Cuvee Tournant de Pouilly 1er Cru
GBP £275 per case (6*75cl OC) in bond
93 points Allen Meadows
Moderate wood is present on the markedly floral-scented nose of lemon-lime, apple, quinine and a plethora of citrus elements. As is typically the case, the broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration and imposing power while delivering first-class length on the youthfully austere finale. Even by the excellent standards of this wine vintage in and vintage out, this is a big example in 2021. (2023)
