We have a limited parcel of a gem from the Napa Valley, the 2021 Unwritten Wines Signature Series Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Rated at 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck and the comment that “if you get a chance to buy these wines, do it” this should be snapped up by Napa connoisseurs. However, with just 51 cases made, few will ever get to own any.
Unwritten is a relatively new winery already making waves. It turned heads a few years ago when the debut 2014 vintage made the list at the famous French Laundry Restaurant in Napa and since has gone on to be a true cult collectable.
This 2021 is one of the finest wines ever made here. It comes from the excellent Las Posadas vineyard and is “as good as any wine out there and stunning in every sense of the word” for Jeb Dunnuck. A compelling buy to say the least… if you can find it as this is one of the rarest wines we’ll ever offer.

Lastly, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Signature Series comes from the Las Posadas Vineyard on Howell Mountain and was raised 23 months in new barrels. As with the Oakville release, there’s just about none of this available, with just 50 cases produced, but wow, what a wine. Pure black fruits (currants, cassis), smoked tobacco, lead pencil/graphite, crushed stone, and bouquet garni notes define the aromatics, and it’s massively concentrated, with a dense, stacked mid-palate, laser-like precision, and building, ripe tannins. I certainly can’t see how this beauty could be any better it’s as good as any wine out there and stunning in every sense of the word. Hide bottles for 4-5 years (it will be interesting to see if this shuts down), and it should have 20-25 years of overall longevity. Winemaker Mark Porembski hit a homerun with these 2021s and if you get a chance to buy these wines, do it. (2023)
