New Release: 2017 CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja - A 97 Point Steal

We are delighted to offer the new release of one of Spain’s icon wines, the 2017 CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja. Tasted by us earlier this week and showing superbly, this is an alluring, inviting and delicious Rioja and, with no price increase this year, is a phenomenal buy.

Taken from a selection of CVNE’s best vineyards with incredible care given to each specific plot both in the vineyards and then in the winery, the Imperial Gran Reserva is a Rioja of real quality. A high proportion of Graciano, notable for its power and structure, gives an almost Left Bank Bordeaux feel with concentration and intensity framing the fine acidity and purity of the Tempranillo.

The 2017 is fabulous. It has all of the classic Imperial attributes – power, structure and complexity – yet has a style and panache that makes it sensational to taste already. James Suckling loves it, calling it “A very structured and gorgeous Rioja” with “superb length and power”.
