New Release From Michel Fallon - The Micro-Production Ozanne Champagne (2023 Disgorgement)

Michel Fallon’s Ozanne Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is one of the most exciting Champagnes on the market. Made by Michel Fallon, Cellar-Master at Jacques Selosse for 30 years, in Selosse’s cellars, the thousand bottles or so released every years are true cult collectables. I am delighted to have some of the latest-release, the 2023 disgorgement, to offer at a very keen price against previous iterations.

Fallon spent three decades at Selosse helping to craft the immense Champagnes that made this house world famous among connoisseurs. All of that expertise and skill goes into this, his own label. It comes from a tiny plot in Avise, and is so small in production that William Kelley said of a previous release“finding any of the thousand or so bottles released every year is next to impossible”. It is, however, worth the effort, as he goes on to advise, “the quality is exceptional and readers who have the opportunity to try Fallon‘s wine emphatically shouldn’t hesitate.”

While technically a non-vintage, the Ozanne comes from just a single year. This parcel is the 2018 vintage and was disgorged in 2023. It hasn’t been rated by the critics, but previous notes are superb, with William Kelley calling a 2017 disgorgement “Full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, it’s layered and textural, with a bright spine of acidity, a pearly enlivening mousse and a long, intensely sapid finish”.

We’ve rapidly sold out of every parcel we’ve ever seen of this and expect a new release to be no exception. Indeed, with this the last Ozanne made in Selosse’s cellars, it may well be of more interest to than usual. It is also very competitively priced against previous disgorgements, which trade at £1,800+ per 6 on the London market, further heightening the desirability.

William Kelley’s note for a previous disgorgement below for reference:
The May 2017 disgorgement of Fallon‘s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Ozanne is showing brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, crisp yellow orchard fruit, freshly baked bread, toasted nuts, candied peel and honeycomb. Full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, it’s layered and textural, with a bright spine of acidity, a pearly enlivening mousse and a long, intensely sapid finish. Its combination of power and tension makes this the finest wine I’ve tasted from Fallon to date. Of course, finding any of the thousand or so bottles released every year is next to impossible, but readers able to track one or two down are in for a treat. (2021) www.robertparker.com 95 points
