Only 350 Cases Made: An Ultra-Rare Napa Cabernet

The Mithra Cabernet Sauvignon ticks all the boxes when it comes to cult collectable Napa. It is made from excellent tiny plots in Mount Veeder by a revered winemaker in the form of Frenchman Julien Fayard and is achingly rare. Just 350 cases are made in a typical vintage, with the vast majority sold to members of the direct mailing list and a handful of high-end restaurants. Owners are in a very exclusive club. We are, therefore, delighted to have some 2016 & 2018 to offer.

Three factors should put this high on the list for Napa collectors:

  • The winemaking is excellent. Fayard is revered in Napa and spent time in winemaking positions at Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux. He brings a wealth of experience to the wines of Napa.
  • 2016 and 2018 were an excellent vintages for Napa. For Jeb Dunnuck, “2016 is an incredibly beautiful, classic year for Napa Valley, which produced an enormous amount of high-quality wines. The best 2016s shine for their purity of fruit, ripe, polished tannins, and impeccable balance.” 2018 was also excellent for Dunnuck, Unquestionably, Napa has a beautiful vintage on its hands with 2018.”
  • Mithra is incredibly rare. Only 350 cases exist, and finding more will be extremely difficult.

The 2016 and 2018 Mithra have not been shown to the critics, but looking at the pedigree here, they look like a compelling buy.
