Domaine Ramonet: An Icon of White Burgundy

Domaine Ramonet is one of the planet’s best white wine producers. From its home in Chassagne Montrachet, Ramonet has access to stunning vineyards and fruit and uses them beautifully to craft electrifying wines of world-class quality. There’s something very special about Ramonet, and it has achieved a cult-like following among fine wine collectors and connoisseurs.

Praise from the critics for what has been and is being achieved at Ramonet is huge. As the late Clive Coates said, “Ramonet in white is the equivalent of Henri Jayer or the DRC in red”. Charles Curtis MW of Decanter is also a huge fan, saying “Considered one of the masters of white wine in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Ramonet is among Burgundy’s most revered and mysterious producers.“  Comments like these mean that Ramonet’s wines are some of the most sought-after year in and year out.

Domaine Ramonet was founded in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet. It is now managed by Jean-Claude Ramonet and his daughters Anne-France and Clarisse, representing the third and fourth generations of the family.

Ramonet: Wines Of Style & Substance

Winemaking is very non-interventionist, with only light crushing of the grapes and minimal use of sulphites. New oak is limited to around 30%, with only the Montrachet seeing 100% new oak.

Ramonet has built up enviable holdings in Burgundy over the years. The flagship is Montrachet and is supported by the excellent Batard and Bienvenues Batard Montrachet. Of the 1er Crus, the pick is the Chassagne Montrachet Ruchottes, a calling card of the estate that is highly revered by collectors.

All of the wines are characterised by purity, complexity, balance and ageing potential.
