The Origins of Domaine Dujac

Domaine Dujac was founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, a former banker and biscuit maker who had a passion for wine. He learned the art of winemaking from Gérard Potel, the legendary owner of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay. He then acquired Domaine Graillet, a rundown estate in Morey-Saint-Denis, and transformed it into Domaine Dujac.

With the help of his wife Rosalind, an American who came to assist with the 1973 vintage and never left, he gradually expanded the domaine’s holdings to include some of the most prestigious appellations in the Côte de Nuits, such as Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Chambertin, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and Vosne-Romanée.

The Legacy of Domaine Dujac

Today, Domaine Dujac is run by the second generation of the Seysses family, who joined the domaine between 1998 and 2003. Jeremy, the eldest son, is the winemaker and the president of the domaine. His wife, Diana, a former winemaker at Domaine de Montille, is in charge of the vineyards and the laboratory. Alec, the younger son, is the commercial director and the export manager.

Together, they uphold the domaine’s reputation for producing elegant, aromatic, and complex wines that express the terroir and the vintage. They also embrace sustainable and organic viticulture, obtaining the organic certification in 2011. They experiment with biodynamic practices and minimal intervention in the cellar, using whole cluster fermentation, indigenous yeasts, and varying degrees of new oak. Domaine Dujac is widely regarded as one of the finest and most consistent domaines in Burgundy, and its wines are highly sought-after by collectors and connoisseurs around the world.
