A First Look at September’s Most Anticipated Wine Releases

Get Ready for an Exceptional September 2024!

While August is traditionally one of the slower months for the fine wine trade, September is another matter entirely. A raft of new releases from some very big names always keeps us busy and, with some massive scores and great vintages in the mix this year, September 2024 will be no exception.

Prepare to be impressed
As the wines will come thick and fast from the first working day of the month, we thought it worthwhile previewing a small selection of highlights so that you’re in the know and ready when these wines hit the market.

The schedule of anticipated releases is below, showing the main wines we expect to follow and offer next month. If you spot any particular favourites, there are specific wines you are eager to secure, or you would like to know more about the allocation process for the most in-demand wines, please let us know by contacting your account manager.

Have a fantastic weekend,
The Vinum Team

Monday, 2nd September
2021 Opus One
A Napa Valley Icon. With 99 points from James Suckling and 98 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown, this looks like an early winner.

Tuesday, 3rd September
2021 Masseto and 2022 Massetino
Masseto is always one of the key releases of the year and tends to be massively over-subscribed and highly allocated. With 100 points from Galloni, this 2021 will be no exception. A must-buy if you can get your hands on a case.

2022 Petit Cheval Blanc
The white wine of this iconic St Emilion has attracted quite a following in recent years. Small production, great quality and fair pricing make this one worth following.

Thursday, 5th September
2021 Solaia

A 100-point scorer for Antonio Galloni, this is a great, great vintage for one of Tuscany’s most famous wines. Like the Masseto, is likely to be hard to find and tightly allocated but worth the effort to track down.

2022 Y de Yquem
The dry white from Sauternes’ most famous estate. Relatively small production and world-class winemaking make this a compelling option.

Friday, 6th September
2022 Beaucastel, Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin

One of the Rhone Valley’s icon wines, this luxury cuvee is a micro-production gem. 96-98 points from Vinous.

Tuesday, 10th September
2009 Chateau Latour (2024 Release)

A late release from the cellars of Latour, this is an immense wine. 2009 was a superb vintage and Latour took full advantage to craft a perfect wine. At 15 years, it has a nice amount of maturity, courtesy of Latour’s famous cellars, but is still youthful and will be fascinating to follow for decades.

Monday, 16th September
2021 Beaulieu Vineyards, Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

This brilliant Napa has been a big seller for us in recent years thanks to a winning combination of great quality, scores that rival the best in the region and very sharp-pricing. With 98+ points, from Jeb Dunnuck, the 2021 should prove very popular.

Tuesday, 17th September
2020 Pym Rae

The Napa wine made by Alfred Tesseron of Pontet Canet fame. Has proved a real success in the last few years.

Wednesday, 18th September
2020 Telmo Rodríguez, Yjar Rioja

A micro-production gem. The beautifully pure new-wave Rioja has been a hit since first hitting the market a few years ago. We don’t tend to see much (as there isn’t very much made) so it’s one to be quick to secure on the day of release.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of everything that’s coming in September, but hopefully will be a good guide as to the wines we’ll be following and offering (allocations allowing).
