The 'Yokai' Springbank Trilogy from East Asia Whisky Co

We are delighted to be able to offer the full Springbank ‘Yokai’ Trilogy from independent bottler East Asia Whisky Company. Available at GBP 11,500 per 3 bottle set in bond, a tiny number of these bottles were produced, with the star of the set being the first time a Springbank whisky has been aged in a Japanese Mizunzara oak cask. Do let me know if you’d like to snap this set up while available.

East Asia Whisky Company has become a sought after indie bottler in the last few years, known for their meticulous approach towards cask sourcing and craftmanship of presentation. Each release tells its own story with bottlings being small-batch, beautifully presented and unique expressions from only the very top distilleries. Founded in 2016, EAWCo has won IWSC 2023 Gold Outstanding for their 1990 Bowmore 31YO Mizunara PX Sherry Cask Finish.

Following on from releases of aged Macallan and Bowmore casks, this trio of Springbanks is a stunning collector’s piece.

Inspired by mythical creatures of Japanese folklore, the Yokai series celebrates the extraordinary achievements of select distilleries and embraces a variety of creative and special casks. Only whiskies with a flavour profile that convince the East Asia Whisky Co panel to score a point score of 90 or above are selected for this exclusive series. Springbank has been a rising star for collectors for some time and so the choice of these three releases for the Yokai series was an easy one for EAWCo to make.

We are very pleased to offer:

Springbank The ‘Yokai’ Trilogy (East Asia Whisky Company)

GBP 11,500 per set (3*70cl) in bond – 1 set available

Contains one 70cl bottle each of:

1996 Springbank 24YO – Yokai Series ‘Asanoha Dragon’ Edition (Madeira cask) (EAWCo) (48.8%)

1995 Springbank 25YO – Yokai Series ‘Yurei Ghost Cat’ Edition (Rum cask) (EAWCo) (50.6%)

1993 Springbank 28YO – Yokai Series ‘Dragon/Tiger’ Edition (Mizunara Cask) (EAWCo) Bottle # 66 (49.2%)

This set includes one bottle of each of the below:

1996 Springbank 24 Year Old – ‘Asanoha Dragon’ – A tale of oak & fire

The youngest release of the series features a crimson liquid adorned with a golden dragon donning a traditional Japanese pattern instead of the usual fish scales. Asanoha Dragon was distilled in November of 1996 at the Springbank Distillery and then aged for over 20 years in a first fill oloroso sherry hogshead before finishing in a Madeira Single Cask and bottled at 48.8% ABV. The team behind East Asia Whisky Company deemed the resulting spirit extraordinary. Using beautiful FSC® certified wood, this release comes with a custom gift box and presentation oak case designed with a laser-etched Dragon body with Asanoha pattern scales. The box is then fitted with neodymium magnets and a pulley ring to operate the sliding mechanism. To further embellish the presentation, the side of the box is engraved with cloud patterns.

Only 151 bottles produced.

1995 Springbank 25 Year Old – ‘Yurei Ghost Cat’ – A journey in craft

The Single Malt in the second release of gthe trilogy was distilled in November of 1995 at the Springbank Distillery and then aged for over 25 years in a first-fill Rum hogshead, meaning we have a very rare 25-year-old Springbank expression that has been fully matured in rum casks. The ageing here has resulted in a bright, tropical fruit character to the cereal-driven, slightly smoky distillate produced at Campbeltown’s most famous distillery.

Only 168 bottles produced.

1993 Springbank 28 Year Old – ‘Dragon/Tiger’ – Mizunara and Springbank together for the first time

Thie final bottling is very special indeed. It is the first time the Campbeltown single malt has been finished in the incredibly rare Japanese Mizunara oak. The whisky spent 28 years slumbering in a refill-Bourbon hogshead before being transferred to the highest-quality Mizunara cask, bringing together Mizunara’s sandalwood, coconut and incense characteristics to the distinctive Springbank profile. According to the bottlers, East Asia Whisky Co, this is one of their most satisfying liquids created to date. The Querculus Crispula Blume from Hokkaido was dried for three years before being coopered and charred. This bottle is presented in an ebonized oak box and in an engraved glass decanter.

Only 176 bottles produced.
